Reverend Jason Strong will officiate. Interment will follow in the Red Wing Cemetery near Oak Grove. Services are under the direction of Cox Funeral Home of Oak Grove. Visitation will be held Tuesday, April 29, 2014 from 5 to 8 PM at Cox Funeral Home in Oak Grove. Mrs. Van Meter was born April 28, 1920 to Pick and Alma Smith at Charity Hospital in New Orleans. She passed from this life on April 27, 2014 at the Oak Woods Nursing Home in Mer Rouge, Louisiana. She is survived by three daughters, Jackie Yates and husband Wayne, Gayle Miletello and husband Leon, Betty Jo "B. J." Turner and husband Chris, grandchildren Teresa Crook and husband Greg, Buck Yates and wife Marcie, Joey Miletello, Cindy Stone and husband Scott, Debbie Herrington and husband Blake, Stephanie Osborn and husband Tony, eleven great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild. Two sisters Woman Gardner and Lillian Buffington. Also two special young men she loved like her own grandchildren, Jamie Womack and Terry Owens. She is preceded in death by her husband Jack Van Meter, her parents Pick and Alma Smith, brother Bill Smith, sisters Hazel Husband, Helen Humphries and Rachel Moore. Charity lived all of her life in West Carroll Parish in the Goodwill Community where she and her husband Jack farmed and raised their three daughters. Charity cherished her family and her many friends in the small community where she lived. She was known as mamaw to many of the children in the area that she volunteered to take care of so their parents were able to work. She loved children and was always ready to help when the need arose. Pallbearers are: Carroll Womack, Jamie Womack, Andy Womack, Chris Womack, Terry Owens and Buck Yates. Honorary Pallbearers are: Ray Rouse, Ethan Crook and Peyton Griffis. A special thanks to the staff and nurses Vivian and Kesha at Oak Woods Nursing Home for the care and love they gave to our mother the last year of her life.
