Tollie Tillman Volentine was born in Holum, LA on August 3, 1938 to the union of James Perry Volentine and Lucy Day Volentine and he passed away there also. Holum was his home his entire life. He left Grayson High School and went to work on the Mississippi River which became his home away from home for 47 years. He was preceded in death by his father: James Perry Volentine; mother: Lucy Day Volentine; three brothers: James Rayford Volentine, Frankie Mahlon Volentine, and Eldridge Preston Volentine. He is survived by his loving caring wife of 57 years: Geraldine Cassels Volentine. The love they had for each other will never die. She cared for him during his lengthy illness and was at his bedside serenading him as he left this world. She released his hand as he was led away by the Master's hand. He is also survived by five children. They were all his pride and joy. He loved family and cherished each one of them. His daughters-in-law were like his very own angels. His son-in-law literally tried to take away his pain. The three sons are : James Aaron Volentine and his wife, Donna; Hershel Dewayne Volentine and his wife, Debbie; Kurtis Tillman Volentine and his wife, Darla; two daughters: Tina Marie Volentine Brooks and her husband, Mike; Brandy Sue Volentine; He also leaves behind two sisters: Roxie Gates of Monroe and Lucille Braddock of Vixen. They were both special in their own way but he and Lucille had a brotherly-sisterly bond that could not be broken. Grandchildren: Heath Volentine and his wife, Paige; Brooks Volentine, Dustin Volentine and his wife, Amanda, Logan Volentine, Derrick Volentine, Holden Volentine, Hunter Volentine, Kyle Berry, Ciera Berry and her fiance, Chad, Krystle Thompson and her husband, Jared, Kody Brooks and his wife, Amanda, and T.J. Steele; Great-grandchildren: Blaine Volentine, Branon Volentine, Briar Thompson, Jesse Thompson, Erin Elizabeth Volentine, Brooklyn Volentine, Mia Claire Volentine, Rayleigh Thompson, Camryn Volentine, Chandler Haynes, Daisy Maxwell, Lexi Brooks, and Anna Clair Brooks. Tollie touched many people during his lifetime. Some special ones that need to be mentioned are Benny Ray Nevels, he's like another one of his boys. Also his sitters, Nancy Vines, Martha Meredith, and Aaron Crain. All are special to the family. We can't express enough how wonderful they were to him. Pallbearers will be grandchildren: Heath Volentine, Brooks Volentine, Dustin Volentine, Logan Volentine, Derrick Volentine, Kyle Berry, Kody Brooks, Holden Volentine, Hunter Volentine, and T.J. Steele. Hononrary Pallbearers will be: T.H. Tingle, Benny Ray Nevels, Charlie Wyant, Ronnie Darden, Raymond Franklin, Jared Thompson, and Tommy Steele. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, June 25, 2014 from the chapel of Riser Funeral Home in Columbia with Bro. Lemiel Baugh, Bro. Tony Cassels, and Bro. Shane Duke. Interment willfollow at the Holum Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 9:00 AM until service time at the funeral home.
