Born and raised in Choudrant, LA, Dr. Wade worked at a dairy farm to pay his way through college and medical school at LSU, Tulane and Strong Memorial in Rochester, NY, becoming a highly respected specialist in Cardiology. After serving in the Navy as a waist gunner on Consolidated PBY Catalina amphibious aircraft based in San Diego, Dr. Wade established his medical practice in Monroe, treating many patients who couldn't afford medical care. In 1963, he met and married Mary Wilton McHenry, his beloved wife of 52 years, who passed away in March 2016. They raised two sons and spent most of their time together traveling and riding horses at their family farm south of Monroe and in the Teton Mountains in Wyoming. Dr. Wade took great pride in his membership in the elite California horseman group, the Rancheros Visitadores, where he was honored to ride alongside many great men including former President Ronald Reagan and Apollo astronaut Wally Schirra. Dr. Wade found great joy in being with his family, his friends, his dogs and horses. He was an accomplished horseman, devoted husband, father and grandfather and gave to and served many organizations and corporations including Central Bank in Monroe, Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences, Randolph-Macon Women's College in Virginia, the Monroe Beautification Board, the Monroe Garden Club, The Nature Conservancy and many others. Dr. Wade is survived by his sons James McHenry Wade of Natchez, Mississippi and Carlton Hunt Wade, his wife Jill Bartlett Wade, and his grandchildren William Hunt Wade and Mary Bartlett Wade of Austin, Texas, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family. A private celebration of his life for family members will be held at a later date.
