Mrs. Hazel was 90 years of age. She was born in Union Parish, the oldest of 8 children and the only girl, to Charlie and Essie Green on Jan. 2, 1922, but spent most of her life in Richland Parish. She married Billie J. Walker in 1939 and spent the next 60 years, until his death in 1999 devoting her life to making a Christian home for him and their three children. Not only did she proudly and lovingly serve her family, but she served her Lord as a faithful member of Dunn Baptist Church. She and Bill worked side by side to meet the needs of the church as well as those of friends and neighbors. Over her many years, she was a Sunday School teacher to Junior and Intermediate classes, a VBS teacher and worker, a member of WMU, and a member of the Adult Ladies Sunday School Class. One of her most treasured positions was serving as a deacon's wife. Mrs. Hazel's chicken and dumplings and banana puddings were some of the most sought-after dishes at church homecomings and other gatherings. She was genuinely a caring, loving person with a kind word and smile for everyone-a true saint who will be sorely missed by all who knew her. Mrs. Walker was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her daughter, Charlene Walker Rich, her son, Billy Ray Walker, and two brothers Charles and Robert Green. Left to cherish her memory and carry on her legacy are her daughter Lynn Newton and very special son-in-law Billy Wayne of Delhi, eight grandchildren: Jamey Rich and wife Lisa of Start, Kelli Ford and husband Michael of Delhi, Todd Newton and wife Nicole of Bastrop, Dena Melna and husband Jimmy of Delhi, Misty Croft and husband Brock of Delhi, Michael Walker of West Monroe, Tina Smith and husband Donnie of Monroe and Scott Walker and wife Lorie of Ft. Worth, TX. She was Mammaw to 16 great grandchildren: Justin & Haley Ford of Delhi, Meg Rich of Start, Katelyn & Madelyn Cordell of Delhi, Aiden Melna of Delhi, Tyler Melna of Monroe, Ashley & Allison Newton of Bastrop, Taylor & Kelsey Smith of Monroe, Whitney, Hannah & Brenden Walker of Bradenton, FL, Ryder Walker of West Monroe and Christian Walker of Ft. Worth. She is also survived by 5 brothers, Joe, James, Donald (Hoot), Melvin and Albert Green, two sisters-in-law, Louise and Jane Green, and a daughter-in-law Rosemary Walker of Monroe. She will be missed by a very special friend, Mrs. Alice Strong of Delhi. Pallbearers are Jamey Rich, Michael Ford, Justin Ford, Todd Newton, Brock Croft, Jimmy Melna, Michael Walker, Scott Walker, Chris Green and Aiden Melna. Honorary pallbearers are her brothers and Dr. Corey Albritton, James Rich, Jessie Nielsen, James Ogles, Charles Parker and Rev. Eddie Fuller. A celebration of the life of Mrs. Hazel Walker will be at Dunn Baptist Church on Wednesday, October 3, 2012 at 10:00 AM with Rev. Bernard Duchesne and Rev. Terry Ganey officiating. Burial will be at Faith Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends are invited to visitation on Tuesday, October 2, 2012 at Dunn Baptist Church from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM. The family would like to offer a sincere thanks to the staff of Delhi Hospital for the loving care and compassion shown to our mother and grandmother.
