LUCILLE BAKER WALKER

Lucille Baker Walker, 91, of Denton, Texas passed away at her home on December 
23. Services will be Sunday, December 28, in the Burkhalter Chapel at Trinity 
United Methodist Church in Ruston, Louisiana under the direction of 
Kilpatrick's Funeral Home of Ruston. Visitation will be Sunday at 2:30 P.M. 
followed by services at 4:00 P.M. Interment will follow in the Greenwood 
Cemetery in Ruston. Lucille was born on January 25, 1923 in Douglas, Louisiana 
to Guy and Gertrude Holstead Baker. Shortly after her family moved to Ruston 
where she spent 50 plus years until she moved to Calhoun and later to Denton, 
Texas. Lucy was a rarity in that she was so talented in so many ways. She won 
awards for the orchids she grew, was an excellent bridge player, played the 
organ, was a talented artist and excelled in sports. In high school she was the 
tennis champion her junior and senior year and continued to play into her 50's. 
She was also a very good swimmer and accomplished golfer. While she was still 
in high school she met her future husband through her best friend's boyfriend 
who set them up on several double-dates. After three or four of these, Lucy got 
the word out that if Hale wanted to continue to date her it would be on his 
call - no more "set-ups." He called and that was that - neither of them dated 
anyone else.After college Hale joined the army and was stationed in Hawaii as a 
general's aide. Lucy finished at La. Tech and worked in Shreveport. They 
corresponded all the while with Hale sending money home for the purchase of an 
engagement ring. When he returned from the war they were married four days 
later on May 17, 1945 and remained happily married and devoted to each other 
for 45 years. They joined the Ruston Country Club where Lucy " discovered' golf 
and excelled at it -- winning many tournaments throughout the state with 
hundreds of trophies and awards to show for it. She was also an accomplished 
cook, avid gardener, and seamstress - sewing beautiful dresses for her young 
daughter. She seemed to excel at anything she turned her hand to. She loved 
people and was loved in return. She enjoyed helping people in need, never 
saying "No" to anyone. Over the last few years her health began to fail but she 
remained upbeat and active, still playing golf as often as possible, not 
complaining of the various ailments that were slowly taking a toll on her 
natural energy and joy of life. She will be greatly missed by her family and by 
a host of friends whose lives she touched. She is survived by her daughter, 
Rebecca Laschinger and husband David; her son, Lee Walker and wife Deedie; two 
grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; her sister, Anne Baker Heard; a niece, 
and three nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Trinity 
United Methodist Church Outreach Ministry. Online condolences may be made to
