LEONA LEONARD WASHAM

Leona Leonard Washam of Monroe, known as Leah her entire life , was born 
December 22, 1957, to Evelyn and A.C. Washam and left this life to be with her 
Lord on April 2, 2016. She is survived by her mother, Evelyn Brantley Washam, 
of Farmerville, Louisiana; children Lily Claire Washam-Coggins and fiancé Jason 
Wedding, of Haslet, Texas, and Kerry D. Harrell and husband, Kevin, of Highland 
Village, Texas; her sister Jean Washam Hollis and husband, Steve, of Ruston, 
Louisiana; her niece Maridith Hollis and husband, Adam Bell, of Mobile, 
Alabama. She is pre-deceased by her daddy, A.C. Washam, her sister, R. Maxine 
Washam, and loving and faithful childhood caregiver, Mrs. Clara Nyegaard.

Leah was in the first graduating class of Cedar Creek School in Ruston, 
Louisiana, and then attended the University of Louisiana at Monroe, majoring in 
psychology, during which time she married William C. (Bill) Coggins, III. He 
also attended ULM after which they moved to Corpus Christi, Texas. After two 
years, they returned to north Louisiana and settled in Rayville, where they 
resided when both daughters were born.

Even though she graduated from Cedar Creek, she loved her friends from 
Farmerville as well and considered it a privilege to be included in their 
activities. Her family would especially like to acknowledge her life-long 
friendships with Cindy Knight Johns of Monroe, Louisiana; Patti Long of 
Chicago, Illinois; Van Albritton of Monroe; Michael Gray of Monrovia, 
California; and her wonderful neighbor Linda Roan Crooks of Monroe.

She was known for her quick wit and sense of humor and could be the source of 
amusement for many hours. Being well-read and a movie buff, she could expound 
upon a number of topics. She particularly enjoyed all types of music and could 
name the artist of most any song that she heard. Leah absolutely adored her 
dogs and treated them like people. Having a vibrant personality, she never met 
a stranger and could talk for hours with just about anyone. To say Leah was a 
colorful character is an understatement; she truly embraced her individuality.

Leah loved her family and extended family, enjoying visits with her mother, 
children, niece, and remained in close touch with her cousins. She had a close 
relationship with both sisters: Maxine, being the great spoiler, and Jean, 
being the "one in charge." After the children moved away, she and Jean had the 
pleasure of taking a number of trips to visit them.

Leah attended church services as a child at the Farmerville Church of Christ 
and had fond memories of her many friends and activities there. Visitation will 
be on Tuesday, April 5, from 9:00am until 10:30am, with the funeral starting at 
11:00am with both being held at the Farmerville Church of Christ at 306 East 
Franklin Street. Interment will follow at Liberty Hill-Taylor cemetery near 
Farmerville. Officiants will be Larry White and Jerry Keene, and congregational 
singing will be led by Jim Rhodes. Pallbearers will be Gary Aldridge, Bat 
Brantley, Kenny Brantley, Richie Brantley, Jerry Ginn, and Trent Ginn, all 
cousins. Honorary pallbearers are Bruce Brantley and Glen Brantley who are also 
cousins of Leah.
