Funeral services will be held at a later date in St. Louis, MO with interment in Salem, MO. Ray was born June 26, 1919 and died September 16, 2012 at home in West Monroe. He and his wife moved to West Monroe in March, 2012, to live with his son and daughter-in-law after living in St. Louis for 64 years. He was a very active member at Tower Grove Baptist Church in St. Louis for 64 years where he and his wife worked in a variety of different capacities - youth, mission trips, singles, usher, "bus ministry" -- and after his retirement, he led a host of volunteers in maintaining the grounds at the church. He was preceded in death by his parents John Cicero and Mary Ethel Welch, two brothers, and two sisters. Survivors are his wife of 64 years, Hazel Dean Shults Welch; one son, G. Dale Welch and wife Janice; former daughter-in-law Norma Welch; two grandsons, Eric and wife Donna of Ft. Lauderdale, FL and Ryan and wife Kim of Coppell, TX; six great grandchildren, Emily, Tori, Evan, Sophia, Ben and Beau; two step- grandsons, Todd Thompson and wife Aletha of West Monroe and Chad Thompson and wife Kim of Marion; six step great grandchildren, Derek and wife Kaitlin, Ethan and wife Annah, Garrett and wife Rebekah, Ian Orton, Josie, and Savannah; and three step great-great grandchildren, Leland, Kendale, and Henleigh. In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to the Campus Beautification Fund at Tower Grove Baptist Church, 4257 Magnolia Ave., St. Louis, MO, 63110. The family wishes to express a deep appreciation to Louisiana Hospice for their support and care during his brief illness.
