WESTROM Private family services for Mr. Fred N. Westrom, 86, of Monroe, LA will be held Friday May 24, 2013 at the Grace Episcopal Church in Monroe, LA with the Reverend Frank W. Hughes, PhD officiating. Interment will be in Grace Columbarium, under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home. Mr. Westrom died May 22, 2013 at his residence after a lengthy illness. A native of Aberdeen, Washington, he has resided in Monroe, LA since 1951. He graduated from the University of Washington with degrees in electrical engineering and industrial engineering and was licensed to practice in 21 states. His entire professional career was spent with Ford, Bacon, and Davis, where he was elected President in 1979 and Chairman and Chief Executive Officer in 1981 until his retirement. Mr. Westrom was a member of the Grace Episcopal Church, serving on the Church Vestry and was past Senior Warden. He was instrumental in founding the Church Day School. Fred was very interested in many civic affairs serving as a member of the board of various organizations, including: Louisiana Engineering Society, ULM Foundation, Public Affairs Research Council (PAR), Ouachita Valley Council Boy Scouts of America, Monroe Chamber of Commerce, City of Monroe Electrical Board, City of Monroe Street Commission, United Way, American Red Cross, Twin Cities YMCA, American Arbitration Association, Monroe Rotary Club (Past President), Monroe Symphony Orchestra (Past President), KEDM Public Radio, Masur Museum of Art and the Twin City Arts Council. He served in the United States Navy during World War II. Mr. Westrom was a member of the Bayou DeSiard Country Club, the Lotus Club and the New York Athletic Club. He enjoyed his hobbies: traveling, playing the piano, gardening in his two greenhouses, his (6) mile a day walk, the blessings of his family and his many friendships.
