She was born on January 13, 1964, to Ralph and Gail Sims. Christie graduated from Ouachita High School and from Northeast Louisiana University with a B.A. in Psychology and a Master's degree in Special Education. Christie taught school for a year in Columbia, Louisiana, then worked with special needs children and later with pregnant and parenting teens in Bryan, Texas. She devoted herself full time to parenting her children for a number of years, which was her first priority. However, possessing a number of extraordinary gifts, she also operated a business from home creating a children's line of clothes and later sewing window treatments and bedding. Around 2005, she then decided to become a real estate agent and took to it like a fish to water, learning from the great folks at Lincoln Realty before becoming one of the top selling agents in Ruston within a year or two. In 2011, she joined Keller Williams Realty in Monroe. Within a short time, Christie became the Team Leader of that market center. She devoted herself fully to learning about leadership and accomplishing personal goals, and was known for helping many others to achieve their goals. Christie was preceded in death by her father, Ralph Sims, and two baby boys, Jeremiah and Isaiah, who were born too early. She had also lost her father- in-law, James Wheeler, and a sister-in-law, Janice Sims, in the past few years. She is survived by her husband, David Wheeler; her daughter Hannah and husband, Connor Nichols; daughter Gabrielle; and son Noah; her mother Gail Sims; her brother Rusty Sims; her sister Robin Sims; her mother-in-law Estelle Wheeler; and precious nieces, nephews, a great-nephew, and two great-nieces (one who just recently came into the world). Christie was a person who seemed meek and mild initially, but people quickly learned that she was strong and purposeful, a quiet force to be reckoned with. She was smart, faithful, loyal, hard-working, and goal oriented; and she had so many other amazing qualities that gained the respect of her family, friends, and entire communities. She will be missed terribly; however, her legacy will live on. Christie greatly desired to make a mark on this world, and she did that in many remarkable ways. A Memorial Celebration Service will be held at the Bridge Church in Ruston on Sunday, June 25th at 2:00 pm under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Ruston. The family will enjoy visiting with family and friends after the service at the church. Memorials may be made to Family Legacy, an organization providing homes, education, camps, and many kinds of support for the orphans and children of Zambia. Mail checks to Family Legacy, Suite 252, 5005 West Royal Lane; Irving, Texas 75063. Indicate on Memo: Christie Wheeler Memorial Fund.
