He was named James Carlton White. The public knew him as Carlton, however his close friends called him "C-Baby" or simply "C". Carlton was, at one time, an avid golfer and fisherman but in the last several years illness prevented him from participation in either. Carlton was a dedicated care-giver to his soul mate Bettye Brenda during her bouts with illness. He would never accept a discouraging diagnosis without going to extremes to find a way to get Bettye on her feet. So many times we all thought that it would be Carlton that nursed Bettye to heaven…but we never know just how our lord and Savior Jesus Christ has our lives and our deaths planned. Carlton and Betty would have celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary today (June 20, 2010). Carlton lived with the fact…believing that "we have loved the stars too fondly to fear or curse the night". He played the cards he was dealt, and played them well. Carlton was an aggressive Mayor of Farmerville. He, more than any other individual, including those in Baton Rouge is responsible for Con Agra coming to Farmerville. He was very head-strong and would not take "NO" for an answer. He dearly loved "politics" and will be sorely missed by many. Carlton was owner and publisher of The Gazette newspaper for 43 years. He was extremely active in local, state and national organizations such as Jaycees, Lions Club, First United Methodist Church, Farmerville Volunteer Fire Department, Louisiana Press Association Board of Directors, Past Master F. & A.M. #53, Knight Templar 32nd Degree Mason, Vice President Dist. B Louisiana Municipal Association and was employed with the Union Parish Sheriffs Office. Carlton is survived by his wife of 51 years, Bettye Brenda White, two sons, Jim White of Geneva, IL and wife Karen, Steven White of Wilmington, NC and wife Jacqui. Three grandchildren, Nicholas White of Lafayette, LA, Nathan White and Natalie White of Geneva, IL, Brother Larry White and wife Judy of Farmerville, LA., nieces and nephews. Born February 2, 1938 in Bernice, LA and passed on Friday, June 19, 2010 in Farmerville, LA. He was preceded in death by his father Fred Carlton White and mother Vivian Reid White. Memorial service is scheduled for Monday, June 21, 2010 at 2:00 P.M. at The First United Methodist Church in Farmerville, LA. with Rev. Johnny Hankins officiating. Visitation is Monday, June 21, 2010, from 12:30 P.M. till time of service.
