WILEY, SR. Hixson Brothers Funeral Home Alexandria,La. Hubert E. Wiley, Sr. passed away November 8, 2008 in Monroe, La. at St. Francis Hospital after a brief illness. He was born April 14, 1919 in Vick, La. He and his family moved to Pineville while in high school and he remained in Pineville until 1961. After moving to Monroe, spending many years there, he enjoyed a long retirement in the Farmerville, La., area. Mr. Wiley made many friends in his 89 years. He never met a stranger and could strike up a conversation with anybody at any time or place. He truly loved people. A World War II veteran, he was with the 822nd Tank Destroyers at the Battle of the Bulge and was awarded a Bronze Star. He established many lifelong friendships and still attended his annual army reunions. He had a long and very successful career in sales and sales management. The biggest part of his career was spent in the insurance business. He spent the last 27 years of his working career with United Insurance Company of America, 20 of which he was the district manager for their Monroe office. Mr. Wiley (Daddy, Other Daddy, PaPa) loved deer hunting and squirrel hunting. He always looked forward to that time of year being able to spend time with his family for hunting season and Thanksgiving. Family was very important to him, making sure also that his "group" always attended the Wiley family reunion each year. Mr. Wiley was preceded in death by his wife, Frankie Ryder Wiley, his parents Jessie and Oneda Laborde Wiley, and two sisters Myrtie Croxson and Clydie Greer. He is survived by his loving companion of many years, Mary Giglio of Farmerville; his daughters Gwen Clark and husband Weymon of Pineville, Cheryl Brunson and husband L.E. of Dry Prong; son Hubert E. Wiley, Jr. (Bert) and wife, Sonjie of Monroe; sister Etheal Hess of New Roads; grandchildren Sherri Allbritton and husband Paul and Weymon Clark, Jr. of Pineville, Christy Taylor Flora and husband Jon of Scottsdale, Arizona, and Whitney, Ginger, and Ann Marie Wiley all of Monroe; great grandchildren, Amanda Allbritton, Kristen and Cody Clark, and Tristan Wiley. Services will be held Tuesday, November 11, 2008 at Hixson Brothers, Pineville at 10:00 A.M. with Dr. Alan Miller officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. 8:30 P.M. on Monday, November 10, 2008 and Tuesday from 8:00 A.M. until time of service. Burial will be at Greenwood Memorial Park with Military graveside services. Pallbearers will be Weymon Clark, Jr., Rob Eddlemon, Paul Allbritton, Donnie Brouillette, I.B. Hayes and Paul Ducote. The family would like to give special thanks to the nurses, doctors and staff of St. Francis Hospital (downtown) for their kindness and great care they bestowed upon our loved one.
