WILHITE Walter E. (Sonny) Wilhite, age 79, passed away on March 22, 2015 at National Church Residence on Bath Road in Akron, Ohio. No more pain, Dad, you are free now. Sonny was born in Eros, La. on January 30, 1936 to Walter and Myrtle Wilhite. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Sarah Wilhite. His family is very proud of his military service to the nation in the United States Army, completing his service with an honorable discharge. Throughout his life, Sonny would be first to help anyone in need. He was a great supporter of The Boys and Girls Club of West Monroe, the Telephone Pioneers, and Habitat for Humanity in Columbus, GA. He never met a human being that he did not call a friend. He is survived by his three sons and their spouses, Dennis (Beth) of Westminster, Md., Jeff (Cindy) of Akron, Ohio, and Jerry (Carmen) of Massillon, Ohio. Sonny is survived by his brothers, Lonnie (Patti) Wilhite of Columbia, La., Jamie (Glenda) Wilhite of West Monroe, La.; sisters, Julia Wilhite of Monroe, La., and Carolyn Barnes of Mt. Holly, NC. In addition, Sonny is survived by his grandchildren, John Wilhite, Arielle Cheh (Tom), Paula Carr (Matt), Jacquelyn Bitz (Scott), Jordan Wilhite (Laura), Katie Wilhite; and a beautiful great-grandaughter, Makenna. Uncle Sonny also leaves many beloved nieces and nephews. Cremation has taken place. The family will gather in Columbus, GA on April 17 for a memorial service to celebrate Sonny's life. To honor him, the family asks that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to Family Promise of Summit County, a homeless shelter for families with children, 111 East Voris Street, Akron, OH, 44311. www.familypromisesc.org.
