Jamie Lee graduated from West Monroe High School with the class of '59 and earned a degree in business management from Northeast Louisiana State College. He served in the Army Reserve until 1969. After a successful association with Howard Griffin early in his career, he established Jamie Wilhite Sound Center in partnership with his wife Glenda, retiring in 2011 after 40 years in business. He was a member of First Baptist Church of West Monroe (First West) and the Frank Hoffman Life Group. He was previously a member of Ridge Avenue Baptist Church. Throughout his life Jamie was passionately devoted to the needs of his community, particularly to those he felt needed a second chance. This avocation spanning the past 25 years began with revival weekends through Kairos Prison Ministry in regional correctional centers and prisons in I990. This work inspired Jamie to become a certified prison chaplain. He initiated the current prison ministry at First West and served as its leader for the past decade. Other organizations benefitting from Jamie's leadership include the Boards of Directors for Freedmen, Boys Club of America, Love Village of Monroe, and Ouachita Outreach. Jamie was a compassionate counselor to many. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Glenda Rogers Wilhite, sons Damon Wilhite (Misty) of Monticello, Arkansas, and Shane Harris (Sandy) of Elgin, Texas, grandchildren Cody, Reese and Addison Wilhite, Cade (Kat) and Cory Harris, brother Lonnie Wilhite (Patty), sisters Julia Wilhite and Carolyn Barnes and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Jamie was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Myrtle Wilhite, older brother Walter "Sonny" Wilhite, mother and father-in-law, Josh and Darine Rogers. Visitation for family and friends will be at Kilpatrick Funeral Home in West Monroe Tuesday, August 9, 2016, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. A memorial celebration honoring Jamie's life will be held Wednesday, August 10, 2016 at 10:00 AM at the First Baptist Church of West Monroe. Dr. Dwight Munn and Dr. Woods Watson will officiate. The family will gather for a private graveside service at a later date. Memorials may be made to First West Prison Ministry or the charity of your choice .
