"WW" as many of his friends called him, was born in Monroe, LA on June 5, 1933 to Lena Mae Harvey and Harold Lesslie Woods. Funeral services for Wayne Harvey Woods, 83, of Monroe, LA, will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, November 10, 2016 at All Saints Anglican Church, 4201 Forsythe Avenue, Monroe, with Rev. Mark Bleakley officiating. Interment will follow at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery, under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Monroe, LA. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until service time Thursday at the church. He went to Georgia Tucker and Neville Junior and Senior High Schools where he served as president of both Student Councils. His Senior year he was voted in by acclamation. Wayne went to LSU on a boxing scholarship. Boxing, reading, and golf were his passions. He was a fierce competitor no matter what the challenge or endeavor. He joined the Army's 4th Infantry Division and served two years in Germany and 5 years in the reserves. After his honorable discharge, he joined his Dad and brother Harold Jr. at Crescent Drilling. He gave his time to the community by serving on the Junior and Senior Monroe Chamber of Commerces, and as the president of the YMCA and the NLU Athletic Foundation. Later in his life, he served on the Northeast Louisiana Board of Realtors and the Board of Directors of the Bayou DeSiard Country Club. He was a licensed real estate broker in Louisiana and New Mexico and also a licensed building contractor. He owned and ran various businesses throughout his career. He also gave his time and talent to All Saints Anglican Church where he served 3 years as Treasurer on the Vestry. He was truly known as a "southern gentleman". He is survived by his wife, Bonnie Bancroft Woods, who was the love of his life, and his children: Dr. Wayne H. Woods Jr. and daughter-in-law, June Woods; Carolyn Scott Shelby and son-in-law, Dr. Christopher Shelby, Sharon Woods, Shawn Woods, Bancroft Mattei, Turner Mattei; nine grand-children, and four great-grand-children. The family would like to thank Dr. Luis Pineiro at Baylor Hospital Oncology, Dr. Anil Veluvolu at Willis-Knighton Cancer Center, and Dr. Kevin Gallagher and staff at the Louisiana Oncology Group, and his loving caregivers, Dollie Jackson, Jerry Gaston , and Benny Walker.
