A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at Broadmoor Baptist Church in the Memorial Chapel on June 18, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will precede the service at 10:00 a.m. in the Parlor. Jean graduated from Fair Park High School in Shreveport and attended Louisiana College, where she lettered playing tennis. While at L.C., Jean met the love of her life, James H. Word. They married after graduating from college and began their careers in the education field. Jean earned a Master's degree at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. While studying there, they lived in married student housing, located in Tiger Stadium. Jean loved her LSU Tigers and followed every sport! Jean had a wonderful sense of joy and adventure which she instilled in her children through family camping and exploration of the wonders of the outdoors. In her later years, she and her treasured sister were inseparable. They spent many joyful hours together, turning even the mundane tasks of life into cherished memories. They both enjoyed talking and laughing with their friends as they played cards and ate her favorite food, dessert! Jean was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James Word. She is survived by her sister, Ethelene Harvey, of Shreveport, and by her three daughters and their families, Dr. Cathy Word-Allen and husband, Randy Allen, of Natchitoches, LA, Kerry Orozco-Word of Fort Collins, CO, and Lin Norman and husband, Mark, of Benton, LA. Grandchildren include Lauren Gough and husband, Casey, Ryan Lott and wife, Leigha, Alegra Orozco-Word, Mia Orozco-Word, Alex Orozco-Word, Julia Tims and husband, Luke, Brooke Humble and husband, Daniel, Chelsea Norman, Alisha Norman, Josiah Norman, and Ana Norman. Jean had eight great- grandchildren, Charlotte and Harrison Gough, Dahlia Orozco-Word, Sophia and Anderson Tims, Max, Cayden, and Weston Humble. She is also survived by two nephews, Dr. Charles Harvey, Jr. and Dr. Ron Harvey. Jean's family would like to thank the extraordinary staff of the Grace Home for their remarkable gifts of ministering to patients at the end of their lives, filling their final days with comfort and peace, while tirelessly loving and supporting the patients' families.
