To the Reverend Ashley Hewitt you are hereby authorised and empowered to celebrate a marriage between Mr. John Dyson & Nancy Faulk residents of this Parish. Given under my hand and Seal office this tenth day of August, 1817. Oliver J. Morgan Parish Judge Certification State of Louisiana Parish of Ouachitta, Sct. Before me Ashley Hewitt preacher of the Gospel duly authorised to celebrate marriages in the aforesaid Parish by License granted by the Honorable Oliver J. Morgan Parish Judge bearing date 22 day of June 1817, personally appeared Mr. John Dyson resident of said Parish aged 40 and Nancy Faulk daughter of Pheobe Faulk widow, aged 30, who say and declare that they were married by the Honorable Benjamin Tennille, Parish Judge of Catahola, that from their union they have had issue by, Jonathan born 11th June 1809, Aaron born 17th March 1811, Pheby born May 3, 1813, Marinda born August 4th 1815, which children are still living. The said appears have moreover declared that having doubts as to the validity of their marriage so as aforesaid celebrated by a Parish Judge they have determined to cause the same to be celebrated anew by a preacher of the Gospel duly authorised to celebrate Marriages, in consequence whereof they have taken out a license from the Judge of this Parish bearing date the 10th of August 1817 authorising their marriage, which license they have presented to me the aforesaid Preacher of the Gospel and have requested to be married, wherefore being respectfully questioned, they do declare that it is their mutual wish and intention to take each the other as Husband & Wife and that they acknowledge as legitimate their children before mentioned as the lawful issue of their union and therefore I have duly joined them together in Marriage. Done at Ouachitta this 8th October 1817 in the presence of me the aforesaid Preacher of the Gospel and the subscribing witnesses who together with the parties have signed the present. Wit. John T.
