Thomas B Franklin Marriage Contract submitted by Dorothy Wheat - information taken from Ouachita Parish Lousiana Conveyance Records Thomas B Franklin with marriage cont Elizabeth Ford This sixth day of September, 1817, personally appeared before me Oliver J Morgan Judge of the Parish of Ouachita, Thomas B Franklin and Elizabeth Ford daughter of Lydia Ford wife of John Bannister both of the Parish aforesaid who are mutually agreed on the following contract of marriage. The said Franklin and the said Elizabeth agree to take each the other as man and wife and to celebrate the same immediately. The parties reciprocally acknowledge that the husband is professed of a plantation and ten negroes estimated at seven thousand dollars out of which property he endows his future wife with the sum of one thousand dollars and one hundred acres of land situated in the parish of Ouachita, to hold and enjoy during her natural life, then to revert to the rightful heirs of him the said Franklin. All other matters and things relative to their property the parties leave to the disposition of the laws in force. M Hughes Thos. B Franklin James Huey Jr her Elizabeth X Ford Mark The foregoing marriage contract was duly signed and acknowledged by the parties in presence of me the said Parish Judge (the said Elizabeth Ford not knowing how to write made her ordinary mark) and the subscribing witnesses on the day and date therein mentioned. In credence whereof I have hereunto signed my name and affixed my seal of office the date afforesaid. Oliver J Morgan Parish Judge Transcriber's note: The following information is from Ouachita Parish Conveyance Book D, page 374: " Thomas B Franklin (second marriage) in Ouachita Parish on 7 September 1817 to Elizabeth Ford, daughter of Lydia Ford, wife of John Bannister - by Oliver J Morgan P-J with John Hughes and James Huey witnesses. " The record shows that this was a second ceremony as they had been married originally by Henry Bry in 1807.
