Few more auspicious unions have been celebrated in Monroe than that at the residence of the bride's father at 12 n. on Thursday the 28th inst., when Dr. Robt. Layton, favorably known in this city from boyhood, was by the Rev. Mr. Crezler united in marriage to Miss Genie Stubbs, one of Monroe's most highly esteemed and accomplished young women. When to every attribute of true nobility in the man are joined beauty, amiability and intelligence in the woman the future is radiant with promises of happiness. The mariage [sic] was witnessed by a few of the bride's nearest friends, among whom were Mr. and Mrs. J.B. Stone, Mr. and Mrs. Murphy of Tallulah, Mr. and Mrs. D.A. Breard, Jr., Mr. and Mrs. D.M. Sholars, Mrs. Carson, Mrs. McCready, Mr. and Mrs. L.W. Stubbs, Mr. and Mrs. de Neven, Mrs. L.W. Flournoy, Mrs. M.G. Newcomb, Misses Jordena, Alice and Louise Flournoy, Misses Birdy and Mamie Richardson, Messrs, Bentley, Russell, W.Y. Logan, Saunders, Dr. G.A. and F.E. Flournoy and Chas. K. Bennett. Congratulations extended and an elegant luncheon having been dispatched, by the west bound train at 2:40, Dr. and Mrs. Layton took their departure for Dallas, Texas, their future home. The best wishes of a host of friends go with them and the Telegraph bespeaks for them of the citizens of Dallas a cordial and hospitable reception. "May life hold choicest blessings for them both; A larger share by far of smiles than tears; And may they gather up its richest treasures; As one by one they gather up its years." Additional Comments: The guest list reads like a who's who of Ouachita Parish and Northeast Louisiana society. Mr. and Mrs. J.B. Stone is Kate Stone and her brother John. Kate of course, wrote the classic "Brokenburn".
