In what was once known as Lake Hermitage settlement, and in recent years renamed Lake Judge PEREZ, is the BIEBER - TRUEIL Cemetary. As one leaves highway 23 to travel the first five miles to Lake Judge Perez, one gets the feeling of travelling into the past, At first, the terrain along the wide shell road is a rich thicket of mixed vegetation. There are a few older evergreen trees interspersed in a forest of small annual shrubs and vines. Within a mile or so the land takes on an impressive dignity with tremendous live oak trees draped with spanish moss. Several picturesque and tranquil old plantation bayous streach across the road and small trailers and camps cling closely to their edge, As one continues the trek to Lake Judge PEREZ, one notices these stately old oaks thinning and the water level rising. Within a mile of Lake Judge PEREZ, one feels as though he is driving through the swamp. Though the road is still quite good, the large oaks are now dead, the ricj green coloring has become a pale gray. The marsh laps at the shoulders of the road. Finally, the fishing village of Lake Judge PEREZ appears. Its solitude and stoic character is readily apparent. The people of this community are friendly hard working fishermen and trappers, many of which have spent several generations here. The little graveyard under the big oak is reminiscent of graveyards not in the south Louisiana, but perhalps New England. These are no surface vaults or tombs. Each person is buried in the ground with his own headstone or cross. Beginning on the row nearest the bayou: Stone marker Philip L. BIEBER Died 1942 - age 62 Stone Marker In Memory of Charles H.
