All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** For those interested there are pictures of all the men except John Dymond HON JOHN DYMOND Whose photo we were unable to secure thus far, is one of the braiiest men in Louisiana. He is the friend of the tiller of the soil andhasdone more to promote the interest of the agriculturest than any other man in this state. He has attended, at his own expense, every agreculture meeting held in this state within the past 15 years and knows the wants of the farmer, the laboring class, the bread-winner. Those who knows him best have found him to be a gentleman, ever courteous, a lover of our Republican institution and especially one who is devotedly attached to this parish and who loves her people. He is no autocrat, but a Democrat. This is the man who will represent our people in the next legislature and will be a good and faithful servant. CAPTAIN BEN MICHELL Captain Bemn Mitchell was born in England in the year 1855 and came to this country when quite young, and locating in this parish over twent-five years ago. He has been a Bar ilot for the last 18 years and is now Chairman of the Board of pilot Commission. Through his energy and popularity he has been foremost in improving the Pilot system, and protecting the cause of the pilots. He is always a true Democrat, ever alive to the best interest of the party and this parish. Captain Ben Michell has not sought political preferment, but has always taken an active part in politics and is today one of the most popular men in this parish. Shrewd, energetic and possessing a fine education combined with a sound common sense, he will aid to steer the Democratic ship safe into its harbor where Republicans billows will strike harmless against its sides. Captain Ben has always worked assisdnously and intelligently for the cause of the pilots, one of the worthist associations of the state and today enjoys the full confidence and esteem of his fellow colaborers. Asking for nothing, he is devoting his time and labor for the success of the Democratic ticket and he will ever be remembered as an honored son of the parish of Plaquemines. MARC COGNEVICH We present today to our readers the photo of MR. Marc Cognevich, and it will be seen that our worthy assessor is a handsome man just as he is a true Democrat. This is not written in disparagement of the other members of the committee, all of whom are handsome, and if any member should appear otherwise, the fault must be attributed to the cut and not to the personal appearence of the member so afficited. Everybody in this parish knows our friend Marc. Jovical and kind hearted, he is a noble specimen of the Creole type and is the representative of one of the oldest and most respective Creole Families. Mr. Cognevich has been the assessor of this parish for eight years and has discharged his duties faithfully. The owner of property always desires the lowest assessment possiable and the assessor representing the state and parish as well as the people must be fair and just. For these reasons, there must parforce be some disagreement between the assessor and the tax payer, but in all honor to MR. Cognevich, let it be said that if he has any poliyical enemies in this parish, they are few and far between. He has always been a stanch Democrat and will work hard for the success of the Democrat ticket. F.C. MEVERS Frank C. Mervers, the secretary of the committee, needs no introduction from us to the people of Plaquemines. Tall, robust and a man who knows not what fear is, he will be an ideal Sheriff, intellegent, and the soul of honor, no better man could be elected to fill the position to which he aspires and which he will fill after April next. Frank is also a hustler in the fullest sense of the word and is very popular with all the classes of people.
