He had witnesses: Alexis MARTIN and Norbert MARTIN to swear that he and V. DENES had kept the land clean!! Maximillion asked the Court to force the sale of the land to pay his debt. His request was DENIED!! However, on 6 May 1848, the land was auctioned off and Maximillion MARTIN and V. DENESS bought it for a mere $163.00 and court cost of $ $38.67, Sheriff's fee $ $31.00 and $25.50 for attorney for absent Owner.
