PETROVICH - 7 JEAN LARKO LUKE MEHOVICH Many people were buried in shalow graves at Buras, unidentified and without religious service , but before it was over, Father Bedel of Our Lady of Good Harbor Church would bury over 300 souls. There were many, perhalps hundreds, who were lost and never found, there were whole families lost with no one to report them missing. Men at Fred STOCKFLETH’S Store, stayed busy making crude coffins, the sounds of hammers and saws were mingled with the shovel tapping down the earth of newly made graves. If any of you have ancestors who died in this hurricane, I urge you to read of the horrors in New Orlean Newspapers or I have written about it in great detail in the Plaquemines Parish Genealogical Society’s Quarterly "THE DEEP DELTA". -end-
