Milton Joseph Ward Sr., a retired merchant seaman, died March 28, 1997 
at University Hospital from injuries he suffered in a house fire. He was 
81 years old. A native of Phoenix, he lived in New Orleans for several 
years. He attended McDonogh No.35 High School and Xavier University. Mr. 
Ward was also a cook for Lykes Bros. Steamship Co. and was an Army sergeant
during World War II. He was also a member of the National Maritime Pension 
and Weffare Union. Survivors include his wife, Shirley Savare Ward; one son,
Eldridge Watkins and five grandchildren. A mass was said in his honor at 
Corpus Christi Catholic Church. Burial took place in Mount Olivet Cemetery.

Lawrence Mose Thomas, a messenger for the law office of James Kambur, died 
March 29, 1997 of leukemia at his home. He was 61 years old. Mr. Thomas was
born in Pointe-a-la-Hache and lived in New Orleans for the past 31 years. 
He was a graduate of Joseph S. Clark High School and was a parishioner of 
St. Raymond Catholic Church. Survivors include his wife, Geneva Parker 
Thomas; four sons, Israel, Travis, Corey and Lawrence Michael Thomas; one 
daughter, Samantha Thomas Williams; his mother, Florence williams Thomas; 
two sisters, Virdell Gibson and Virgie Encalade; six grandchildren and one 
great-grandchild. A mass was held in his honor at St. Thomas Catholic 
church in Pointe-a-la-Hache. Burial took place in the church's cemetery.

Opal Daigre, a homemaker, died March 23, 1997 at St. Patrick's Medical 
Center in DeRidder, La. She was 74 years old. A native of Atlanta, Ga. 
Mrs. Daigre lived in DeRidder. Survivors include three daughters, Lottie 
Bailey of DeRidder and Jimmie Mahe' and Jeanette Guidry of Port Sulphur; 
10 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. 
She was preceded in death by her husband, Maurice W. Daigre Sr. and a son, 
Maurice W. Daigre Jr. Relatives and friends of the family were invited to 
attend funeral services at Southern Funeral Home Chapel in Winrifield. 
Pallbearers at the service were Dale Ann Guidry, Maurice Mahe', Barry, 
Timothy, Christopher and Daniel Bailey. The service was officiated by the

Joe M. MacKenzie died on Monday, September 29, 1997, at &15 a.m. Beloved 
husband of Dianne Jones MacKenzie. Father of Joe Malcolm Jr. and Stacey 
MacKenzie and Charles Lanford and Marilyn MacKenzie. Brother of Jean 
Kennedy. Son-in-law of Alyce Jones. Also survived by 4 nieces and nephews 
and 10 great nieces and nephews. Age 60 years. At Joe's request, a Memorial 
Fund benefiting the Belie Chasse Primary School has been arranged with

C. Dale Davis, a retired gas plant manager for Shell Oil Co., died march 
12, 1997 of heart disease at Slidell Memorial Hospital. He was 69 years 
old. Mr. Davis was born in Port Arthur, Texas and lived in Slidell for the
past 20 years. A graduate of the University of Texas, he was a Marine Corps
veteran of World War II and worked for Shell for 42 years. Survivors 
include his wife, Ruth Davis; two sons, Mark Wayne Davis of Belle Chasse 
and Steven Lane Davis; one sister, Billie Jean Suggs of Dablin, Texas and 
five grandchildren. A funeral was said in his honor at Honaker Funeral 
Home in Slidell. Burial took place in Forest Lawn Cemetery.

Dougias F. Bentley Sr., a retired warehouse laborer, died June 16, 1997 
of cancer at Veterans Affairs Medical Center. He was 80 years old and was
born in Phoenix and lived in New Orleans for the past 50 years. Mr. Bentley
was a retired Navy veteran and a member of Bethel Lutheran Church. 
Survivors include his wife, Gertrude Cornin Bentley; two sons, Douglas F. 
Jr. and Cornelius Bentley Sr.; two daughters, Jane R Butler and Elizabeth 
A Cunningham; two stepsons, Stephen and Kenneth Cannon; three step
daughters Linda Boults, Rose Isaac and Gayle Michel; one sister Rose Mary 
Bently; 53 grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. Relatives and 
friends of the family were invited to attend funeral services at Bethel 
Lutheran Church in New Orleans. Burial took place in St. Joseph Cemetery

Ruth Moss Trenchard, a former real estate agent, died Dec.18, 1996 at St. 
Charles Health Cars Center. She Was 87 years old. Mrs. Trenchard was horn 
in New Orleans and lived in Phoenix before reterning to New Orleans for 
the past 31 years. She received a degree in English from H. Sophie Newcomb 
Memorial College. She also worked for the Red Cross during World War II. 
Survivors include a son, Louis B. Trenchard; a daughter, Ann Ruth Trenchard 
Leaman; a brother Louis M. Moss and four graudchildren. A funeral was held 
at Jacob Schoen and Son Funeral Home. Burial took place in Metairie 
Cemetery. Born 11-29-1908

Ruby Sylve on Monday, August 4, 1997 at Meadowcrest Hospital. Beloved wife
of Joseph Sylve, Jr. Mother of Jospeh III, Berwyn and Bradford Sylve, 
Rosalyn Cazabat and Bonnie Frederick. Daughter of the late Sidney and 
Victoria Duplessis. Sister of Clarence and Daniel Duplessis, Hilda 
Phillips, Lucille Gougisha, Marion Olivier, Ursula Frederick, and Loretta 
Nunes. Mother-in-law of Sharon, David Sr., Elton, Patricia, and Madeline. 
Also survived by 12 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and a host of 
other relative. and friends. The service was held at St. Julien Eymard 
Catholic Church on August 9, 1997 at 9:00 a.m. Interment St. Thomas 
Catholic Church.

James T. Tingstrom III died March 3, 1997 at 1:45 p.m. He was 67 years 
old. A native of Algiers, he was a resident of Belle Chasse for the past
35 years. Mr. Tingstrom was the beloved huuband of Yvonne Calligan 
Tingstrom; the father of Susan Leonard, Yvonne Hehert, Yvette Garcia, 
James T., IV and Thomas M. Tingstrom; the son of the late Mabel Forsyth 
and James T. Tingstrom Jr.; the brother of the late Mabel Robichaux, Mamie 
Tierney and Mae Ponson. He is also survived by seven grandchildren.

old. A resident of Terrytown, he was a native of Algiers and lived in 
Belle Chasse for 21 years. The beloved husband of Lana Hays Munsterman, 
he was the father of Melissa Beall, Shanna Munsterman, Jeffery and Stephen 
Munsterman; the stepfather of Shelly Crenshaw and Rennie Coludrovich; the 
son of the late Hazel Balley Munsterman and Ernest Munsterman; the brother 
of Muriel McGar and Ernest Munsterman; grandfather of Jessica and Nicholas 
Beall; the step-grandfather of Katie Boyd. Relatives and friends of the 
family were invited to attend funeral services in his honor at Holy Name 
of Mary Catholic Church. Burial took place in McDonogh Cemetery.

Terry Allbritton, a carpenter, died Jan.28, 1997 at West Jefferson Medical 
Center of injuries sustained in a car accident in Port Sulphur. Mr. 
Allbritton was 41 years old and a lifelong resident of Port Sulphur. 
Survivors include his father, Jack Allbritton; his mother, Janie 
Allbritton; a sister, Connie Allbritton; a brother, Steve Allbritton; a 
sister-in-law, Marsha Allbritton and four nieces and nephews, Ashley and 
Amanda Hinton and J.J and Courtney Allbritton. A funeral was held Jan.30, 
1997 at 10 a.m. at Mothe Funeral Home in Triumph.

p.m. Beloved husband of Leota Buliard Watson. Father of Nan Smith, Max E.,
Limauel L. and Thomas H. Watson. Father-in-law of Russel Smith, Ann Lovell 
Watson and Cheryl Boykin. Brother of Robert, Dumpy, Jessie, May, Dorothy 
and Clanie. Grandfather of Janet, Bobble, Stephanie, Wesley, Brenda, Matha, 
Jimmy, Michael, Limmie, Frank, Monique, Sabriana, Datallion, Elijah, and 
Champion. Also survived by 17 great-grandchildren and 1 great great 
grandson. Age 75 years. A native of Florida and a resident of Buras, LA 
for the past 43 years. A World War II Veteran. Funeral services were held

a.m. Beloved husband of Jennifer Terrebonne Latham. Father of Dylan John 
Latham. Son of Maranda Landry Merritt and Leroy John Latham, Sr. Step-son 
of Maria Latham and Noah Merritt. Brother of Elizabeth Williams, Jonathan 
and Corey Latham. Step-brother of Leanna Boykin,. Kevin and Kelly Merritt.
Grandson of Parnell (Bud) Latham, Margie Latham, Shirley and Raymond 
Landry, Mercy Squarsich, and Louise Verrett. Godchild of Betty Landry and 
Walter Latham. Also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. Age
24 years. A resident of Port Sulphur and a native of Boothville-Venice.

Josephine Reddick DeMolle, a homemaker, died March 12, 1997 of 
complications from diabetes at West Jefferson Medical Center. She was 77 
years old. Mrs. DeMolle was born in Plaquernines Parish and lived in Port
Sulphur for the past 35 years. Surrivors include four sons, James of 
Pointe-a-la-Hache, Warren, Robert and Sherrill DeMolle; seven daughters, 
Elizabeth Lewis of New Orleans, Cherren and Irma Barthelemy of 
Pointe-a-la-Hache, Josephine Gibson, Beatrice Ragas, Willie Mae DeMolle 
and Jill Williams; 34 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren. A funeral 
was held at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Pointe-a-la-Hache. Burial took 
place in the church's cemetery.

and a lifelong resident of Belle Chasse. The beloved daughter of the late
Josephine Treuil Lartigue and Reginald C Lartigue, she was the sister of 
the late Reginald J. Lartigue Sr., Melva Lartigue Lange, Theresa, Joseph, 
Alvin and Roland Lartigue; the aunt of Edna Mae Lange Vedros, Reginald J 
Lartigue, Sandy V. Ragas, Earlis Vedros and Stephen Rages; the aunt-in-law
of Karen Lartigue; the great aunt of Zachary Lartigue and Kristen Allen,

Margaret Firth and Charles W. Graff Jr.; the daughter of the late 
Antoinette Medine and Joseph Rodriguez; the sister of Hervin Burke,
Gertie Taylor and the late Pearl Delotte, Olivia Causin, Eunice, Henry, 
Walter and Jessie Rodriguez. She is also survived by 19 grandchidren and

Ross, Audrey Guidry, Milton and Joseph Eskinde, the late Ralph Perry III
and Mary Roche; the brother of Leonard and Walter Sullen, the late Rev. 
B.J. Cole, Easten Sr. and Hewitt Sullen and Verna Soucier; the devoted 
friend of Jane Higgins Baker and the late Espy Brooks and the godfather 
of Easten Sullen He is also survived by 38 grandchildren, 72 great

Rome Sisung died March 6, 1997 at 4:15 p.m. at her residence in Belle 
Chasse. She was 97 years old. Mrs. Sisung is the beloved wife of of the 
late Leon Abadie by her first marriage, John Umbach by her second marriage 
and Philip Sisung by her third marriage; the daughter of the late Henry 
Chifici and Virginia Giglio Chifici; the mother of Rosemond Bayhi and the 
late Eugene Abadie; the sister of the late Frank Chifici, Anthony Chifici, 
Gaspen Chifici, Henry Chifici, Joe chifici, Charles Chifici, Mary Migilore,
Margaret Sacco and France. Chifici. She is also survived by six 
grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren.

Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Belle Chasse. Burial took

Sherman Spivey died Feb. 19, 1997 in a Longview, Texas hospital. He was 
79 years old. Born July 6, 1917 in Tool, Texas, Mr. Spivey grew up in Edom, 
Texas and graduated from Gaston High School. He also attended Kilgore 
College. A World War II veteran, he achieved the rank of master sergeant 
and was also a crew chief on B-29 airplanes. He worked for East Texas Salt 
Water and later retired from Getty Oil Co. (now Texaco) in 1975 in Venice, 
where he and his family resided from 1952 to 1980, at which time they moved
back to Kilgore. Mr. Spivey was also a member of Forest Home Baptist 
Church, the Joy Makers and Danville Lodge No. 101. Survivors include his 
wife, Ruby Spivey of Kilgore; one son, Michael Ray of Harvey and several 
nieces and nephews. Family and friends were invited to attend funeral 
services at Rader Funeral Home's chapel. Burial took place in Danville 
Cemetery.

William L. Wallace died March 25, 1997 at 9 p.m. He was 72 years old. A 
native of Arkansas and formerly of Algiers, Mr. Wallace was a resident 
of Belle Chasse for the past five years. The beloved husband of the late 
Julia Wooten Wallace, he was the father of Barbara Granger, Peggy Chaisson,
Lamar Wallace, Judy Hebert, Debra Lachute, Shirley Devalcourt, Jessie 
Wallace, Mary Bonck, Ronald Wallace and Kathleen Harvey; the step-father 
of Eugene Burlett; the son of the late Effie and William 0. Wallace; the 
brother of Louise Orgeron, Ila Moore and the late Junior Wallace and Leona 
Dean and the stepbrother of Hubert Griffin. Mr. Wallace is also survived by 
33 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. Relatives and friends of the

Edgar Lloyd Odom, a retired pipeline construction worker, died Feb. 27, 
1997 of heart failure at Meadowcrest Hospital. He was 83 years old. A 
native of Texas, he lived in Monroe and then moved to Jesuit Bend, where 
he had resided for the past seven years. Survivors include three sons, 
Carl Odom of West Monroe and Obie D. and James Boland Odom; one daughter, 
Barbara Gwendolyn Babb of Shreveport; one brother; three sisters; 12 
grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 
Kilpatrick Funeral Home in. West Monroe. Burial took place in Twin-Cities

Clara Ann Phillips, a cashier at McDonald's Restaurant, died Feb. 7 in a 
car accident on Hwy. 23 near Happy Jack. She was 42 years old and a 
lifetime resident of Port Sulphur. Survivors include her companion, 
Leonard Black III; two sons, Justin and Gill Phillips; three daughters 
Orelia, Kristie and Angie Phillips: her brothers, Elliott and Amellian 
Phillips Sr. and seven sisters, Lorraine Nickles, Pamela and Connie 
Williams, Margaret and Georgiana Sylve, Alena Donaldson and Hope Phillips; 
the grandmother of Medici Phillips and mother-in-law of Amanda Phillips. 
She is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers-in-law
and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, 
Justin Phillips Sr. and father, Amellian Phillips Sr. A funeral was held at 
Jerusalem Temple in Port Sulphur . Burial took place in Barthelemy Cemetery
in Diamond.

husband of Jean Meyers DeWald. Father of Debbie and Donnie DeWald and the 
late Donna DeWald. Stepfather of Fawn F. Dewald, Celia Durbin and David 
Dewald. Survived by 6 grandchildren. Age 64. A native of Cedar Rapids, Iowa
and a resident of Wills Point for the past 8 years. A graveside service was 
held in St. Bernard Memorial Gardens Cemetery on Friday, October 3, 1997.

Frances M. Cottjngham Bass, a homemaker, died March 20, 1997 after a long 
illness at the home of her relative, Laura Bladsacker in the New Orleans 
area. She was 75 years old. Born in Waycross, Ga., she lived in Pensacola,
Fla. for over 40 years. Mrs. Bass had lived in Port Sulphur for the past 
seven years. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Veterans of 
Foreign Wars Post 4833. Survivors include a son, Andrew Bass Sr.; two 
daughters, Patsy Halfacre and Linda Hebert; a sister, Louise Cottingham 
Holland; a sister-in-law, Betty Herbert Bass; six grandchildren, Donald 
Halfacre, Becky Halfacre, Michelle Chism, Marsha Chism, David Chism and 
Andrew Bass Jr. and four great grandchildren, C J and Kristen Lasseigne 
and David Chism Jr. and Brittany Chism. She was preceded in death by her 
brother, George Cottingham Jr. A funeral was held at Lewis funeral Home 
in Milton, Fla. Burial took place in Mars Hill Cemetery in Edison, GA.

Manuela Vasquez Cantu died Jan. 9, 1997 at 3:08 p.m. She was 80 years old, 
a native of Ganado, Texas and a resident of Belle Chasse for the past 30 
years. She was the beloved wife of the late Robert T. Cantu Sr.; the 
daughter of the late Dolores Castillo Vasquez and Ignacio Vasquez; the 
sister of: Ignacio (Pete) Vasquez and the late Ross and Nick Vasqizez. 
She is also survived by five grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Armel John Lucas, a retired cab driver, died May 11, 1997 at 8:30 p.m. of 
respiratory failure at West Jefferson Medical Center. He was 74 years old. 
Mr. Lucas was born in Nairn and lived in Marrero for the past 40 years. He 
was an employee of Westbank and Glenn's cab companies. An Army veteran, he 
was awarded the World War II Victory Medal. Survivors include his wife, 
Hazel Hall Lucas; five sons, Ernest 'Butch," Allen "Dale", Samuel, Johnny, 
and Anthony "Joe" Lucas; five daughters, Barbara, Lisa, Linda, Angela and 
Annette Lucas; a brother, Louis Lucas; 25 grandchildren and two great 
grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Armel J. Lucas Jr.; his 
parents, Frank Lucas and Annie Bruney Spahr and his stepfather, Frank 
Spahr. A funeral mass was held for him at Mothe Funeral Home in Harvey. 
Burial took place in Westlawn Memorial Park.

a resident of Belle Chasse for the past 35 years. Mrs. Debelo was the 
beloved wife of the late Emile Debelo Sr.; the mother of Janet Falgout,

Center in Gilmer, Texas. She was 81 years old. Mrs. Alexander was born 
in Texas and lived in Port Sulphur for 37 years before moving back to 
Gilmer in 1977. Survivors include one son, Rawleigh "Butch" Alexander of 
Gilmer; four daughters, Veda Faye Allen of Spring, Texas, Audeen Greer of

March 23, 1997 in the Pipeline Canal. He was 13 years old. Cordell was 
born in New Orleans and lived in Buras for most of his life. He was a 
member of Biddy Buddy Basketball and Plaquemines Parish Bantam Football 
leagues. Survivors include his father, Cordell C. Parker Sr.; his mother,
Monique K. Sylve; his step-father, Talbot Barthelemy; two stepsisters,

William Burton Barrett, M.D., died Jan. 27, 1997 of Alzheimer's Disease. 
He was 75 years old. Dr. Barrett, formerly of New Orleans, resided in The
Woodlands, Texas. He was born in Salem, Ind. and attended the University 
of Indiana. He completed his pre-med degree at Bethesda, Maryland, 
graduated from Louisiana State University Medical School and interned at 
Charity Hospital in New Orleans. He served as a medical corpsman in the 
U.S. Navy during World War II and was a general practitioner in Buras for 
42 years. Dr. Barrett was a member of The Pickwick Club, The Southern 
Medical Association and The Southern Yacht Club. He was preceded in death 
by his sister, Betty Barrett Redelman. Survivors include his wife, Dolly 
Gray Barrett, seven daughters, Kathleen Rockwood, Linda Burwell, Betty 
Ballay, Nancy Larkin, Dolly Smith, Joan Ounanian and Kimberly Shepherd 
and ten grandsons and nine granddaughters. A memorial service was held

Darryl D. Eymard Jr., an oilfield wireline helper, died April 9, 1997 
at 10:30 p.m. at Meadowcrest Hospital, as a result of injuries suffered 
in a car accident on Hwy. 23 near Jesuit Bend. He was 27 years old, was 
born in Buras and had lived in Harvey for the past couple of years. A 
1989 graduate of Buras High School, he was a member of the basketball 
team there. Survivors include his fiancee,' Tera Sercovich; one son, Mark 
Taylor Eymard; one daughter, Cassidy Eyrnard; his father, Darryl D. Eymard 
Sr.; his mother, Mary Henry Eymard; two sisters, Rhonda and Denise Eymard; 
his grandparents, Joyce Droddy Henry, Rueben S. Henry and Sarah Taliancich;
two close friends, Roland Becnel and Becky Brown and three aunts, Layne

Martin Harris Boudreaux, a retired Freeport Sulphur Co. employee, died 
March 17, 1997 at Columbia Medical Center of Southwest Louisiana. He was 
83 years old. A native of Abbeville, Mr. Boudreaux was a resident of Port
Sulphur for 50 years before returning home to Abbeville after suffering a 
stroke in 1995. He served as a gunner in the artillery division in WWII, 
serving campaigns in Ardennes, Rhineland, Central Europe; Normandy and 
North France: He worked for Freeport-Suiphur for 28 years until he retired 
in 1972. Survivors include one son, Martin Harris (Sonny) Boudreaux Sr. of
Lafayette; one daughter, Marilyn Boudreaux of Erath and one sister, Herlin
Boudreaux Mouton of LaPorte, Texas. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren
and 11 great grandchildren. Mr. Boudreaux was preceded in death by his 
parents, Avery and Isma; one brother, Howard and one sister; Jean Otis

Chemical's Oak Point Plant, died Jan. 26, 1997 at Forrest General Hospital.
He was 66 years old. Mr. Wahl was born in New Orleans and lived in Belle 
Chasse before retiring to Lumberton, Miss. in 1991. He graduated from 
Tulane University and was a Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War. He 
worked for Chevron Chemical for 40 years and was a member of the Greater 
New Orleans Chapter of the First Marine Division Association and the Paul 
E. Boyd Post of the Marine Corps League. Survivors include his wife, Joyce 
Ballay Wahl; five daughters, Gretchen Schaubhut of Longwood, Fla., Patricia 
Abel of Belle Chasse, Ellen Loper of Lumberton, Barbara Laughlin of Harvey

He retired in 1989, but went back to work parttime in 1990. Mr. Williams 
was a member of the Olive Branch Baptist Church and a mason in Axiom Lodge 
No.62 in New Orleans. Mr. Williams was the beloved husband of Inez St. 
Williams; the son of the late Pearly Prout Williams and Alphonse Williams; 
the father of Peter Leo Jr., Robert Glenn, Vernon Dale and Errol Oscar 
Williams; the brother of Lucy W Batiste, Edwin and Theo Williams; the 
father-in-law of Rose, Darnell and Diane Williams; the brother-in-law of 
Earlie Mae St. Ann, Myrtle and Elton Toulouse, Anna Mae and Morris St. 
Ann, Hilda and Irene Williams and the late Joseph St. Ann Sr., Hayward 
Batiste, Marguerite And Isaac Hicks. He is also survived by 11 
grandchildren, three great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews,

Archie Harvey Graves of Longmont, Colo., died June 7, 1997 of natural 
causes at Longmont United Hospital. He was 68 years old Mr. Graves was 
a native of Plaquemine, La. and lived in Colorado City, Texas before 
retiring to Longmont in 1993. The retired port manager for Ryan-Walsh 
Stevedoring in Gramercy; he also served in the Army in World War II. 
Survivors include his wife, Nelda Carpenter Graves; two daughters, 
Georgia Berzas and Glenna Glover; three brothers, James Graves of 
Westwego, Joe Graves and Bill Graves; two daughters-in-law, Joyce and

Jefferson Daniel Honeywell, an attorney with the firm of Pivach and Pivach 
in Belle Chasse, died May 1, 1997 of complications from surgery at Memorial
Medical Center. He was 32 years old. Mr. Honeywell was born in Winter Park,
Fla. and lived in the New Orleans area for the past seven years, most 
recently in Belle Chasse. Mr. Honeywell was a graduate of Mercer 
University in Macon, Ga. and the Walter F. George School of Law at Mercer. 
He was an Army veteran and president-elect of the Belle Chasse Rotary Club. 
He was also a member of the following organizations: Plaquemines Parish and 
American Bar Associations, the Kappa Alpha Order, the Empire Club and the

Medical Center. She was 64 years old. A native of Phoenix, she lived

Christian Ministers Missionary Baptist Association, Mount Olive Baptist

multiple myeloma at Memorial Medical Center. She was 75 years old. 
A native of Plaquemines, she lived in New Orleans for the past 73 years.
Mrs. Dennis was a graduate of McDonogh No.35 High School and Xavier 
University. She had worked at Ochsner Foundation Hospital and the 
Children's Bureau of New Orleans. She was also a member of the senior 
usher board and the Pastor's Aide Society at Second Bethlehem Baptist 
Church. Survivors include three daughters, Cheryl D. Jones of Houston, 
Eleanor Dennis Henry and Evalena D. White; one brother, Lionel L. James;

Henzy Schreiber Finks, the retired owner of the H.S, Finks Corp., died 
Feb. 20, 1997 at his home. He was 84 years old. A native of New Orleans, 
Mr. Finke had lived in Mandeville for the past 10 years. During World War 
II, he worked at building military bases in Belle Chasse, Houma and Milton,
Fla. He founded H.S. Finks Corp., an industrial parts company, in 1947 and 
introduced steel scaffolding to the Mid-South construction industry. He 
sold his business in 1965, spending much of the next 22 years sailing the 
world. He was a member of the Southern Yacht Club and sailed in the Dragon 
Class and was also named the national commodore of the American

Bowles was a graduate of Belle Chasse High School and attended Delgado 
Community College. He was a Bantam League football coach for the 
Plaquemines Parish Recreation Dept. and received a black belt from Art 
Monroe's Taekwondo Plus. Survivors include his father, Chuck Bowles; 
his mother, Toni Buras Martinez; his stepfather, Jimmy L. Martinez; 
his stepmother, Scherll Bowles; two half-sisters, Shaina and Brittany

of New Orleans, died May 27, 1997 of a heart attack at Veterans Affairs 
Medical Center. He was 76 years old. Mr. Duplessis, an Army veteran, was

sons Victor, Felton, Jack and Joseph Duplessis Jr; a daughter Helen D

attack while working in a refinery near San Juan, Puerto Rico. He was 48,

was under contract with P.M.C.I. He was active as a coach in the Bantam

died recently at his Shreveport residence. He was the father-in-law of 
Plaquemines SHeriff Jiff Hingle and the father of Louisiana Insurance 
Commissioner Jim Brown. Brown was a native of Kansas City and a resident 
of Shreveport for the past 35 years. He was employed by Kansas City 
Southern Railroad for 40 years and retired there as vice president. An 
active member of the Shreveport Downtown Rotarty Club, he was also a
member of the Presidents Club of the Chamber of Commerce and was state
legislative senator for the Louisiana Council on Aging. He also served 
on the board of directors for Shreveport Crimestoppors, the Democratic 
State Central Committee, and the executive committee and a three-time 
delegate to the National Democratic. Convention. Mr Brown was a member 
of the First Presbyterian Church of Shreveport, where he served on the 
board of deacons and was a 32nd degree Mason and Shriner, as well as a 
member of the Eastridge Country Club. He is survived by his wife, Helen

heart attack at the Port Sulpher Comprehensive Care Center. He was 42 years
old. A native of Port Sulpher, he lived in Hammond, before returning to 
Port Sulpher 19 years ago. A gradute of Buras High School and Southeastern
Louisiana University, he was a member of the Plaquemines parish Oystermen's

Louis Eddie Ballay Jr., a retired foreman for Freeport Sulphur Co., died 
March 20, 1997 of cancer at his home. He was 74 years old. A lifelong 
resident of Port Sulphur, Mr. Ballay was an Army veteran of World War II 
and a former employee of Chauvin Citrus Grove. He was a member of the Port 
Sulphur Volunteer Fire Department and the Clyde Davenport Post of the 
Veterans of Foreign Wars. Survivors include his wife, Thelma Daunie Ballay;
two sons, Glenn and Louis E. Ballay III; a brother, Raymond Ballay; a sister
Lillian Spencer; four grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He was 
preceded in death by his parents, Antonia Treadway Ballay and Louis E. 
Ballay Sr. and two sisters, Mildred Ballay and Mae Ballay Daunie. A mass 
was celebrated in his honor at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Port Sulphur.

1997 of congestive heart failure at West Jefferson Medical Center . He was 
61 years old. Mr. Ballay was a lifelong resident of Plaquemines. Survivors

two daughters, Jody Taravelia and Joanne Martin; a brother Barry J. Ballay;
