He was 81 years old. A native of Phoenix, he lived in New Orleans for several years. He attended McDonogh No.35 High School and Xavier University. Mr. Ward was also a cook for Lykes Bros. Steamship Co. and was an Army sergeant during World War II. He was also a member of the National Maritime Pension and Weffare Union. Survivors include his wife, Shirley Savare Ward; one son, Eldridge Watkins and five grandchildren. A mass was said in his honor at Corpus Christi Catholic Church. Burial took place in Mount Olivet Cemetery. ***** Lawrence Mose Thomas, a messenger for the law office of James Kambur, died March 29, 1997 of leukemia at his home. He was 61 years old. Mr. Thomas was born in Pointe-a-la-Hache and lived in New Orleans for the past 31 years. He was a graduate of Joseph S. Clark High School and was a parishioner of St. Raymond Catholic Church. Survivors include his wife, Geneva Parker Thomas; four sons, Israel, Travis, Corey and Lawrence Michael Thomas; one daughter, Samantha Thomas Williams; his mother, Florence williams Thomas; two sisters, Virdell Gibson and Virgie Encalade; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. A mass was held in his honor at St. Thomas Catholic church in Pointe-a-la-Hache. Burial took place in the church's cemetery. ***** Opal Daigre, a homemaker, died March 23, 1997 at St. Patrick's Medical Center in DeRidder, La. She was 74 years old. A native of Atlanta, Ga. Mrs. Daigre lived in DeRidder. Survivors include three daughters, Lottie Bailey of DeRidder and Jimmie Mahe' and Jeanette Guidry of Port Sulphur; 10 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. A graduate of the University of Texas, he was a Marine Corps veteran of World War II and worked for Shell for 42 years. Born July 6, 1917 in Tool, Texas, Mr. Spivey grew up in Edom, Texas and graduated from Gaston High School. He also attended Kilgore College. A World War II veteran, he achieved the rank of master sergeant and was also a crew chief on B-29 airplanes. He worked for East Texas Salt Water and later retired from Getty Oil Co. (now Texaco) in 1975 in Venice, where he and his family resided from 1952 to 1980, at which time they moved back to Kilgore. He was a member of the Port Sulphur Volunteer Fire Department and the Clyde Davenport Post of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
