Knox on December 27 at St. Patrick Catholic church in Port Sulpher. Shorty after the service, his remains were transferred to Minnesota for additional services and interment. Dr. Knox was found dead in the kitchen of his Nairn home at approximately 11:15 am on December 23 after an employee of his private medical practice went to check on him when he failed to answer his phone or bepper Dr. Knox was 51. An autopsy was conducted on December 24 but the results were inconclusive, said Capt. Charles Guey, Plaquemines chief of detectives. Toxicology results will take a few weeks and could shed more light on the matter Guey mid no foul play is suspected. "There were no visible signs of injury and no signs of forced entry into his home," Guey said. Dr. Knox, who specialized in internal, industrial, and cardiovaeclar medicine, had been the first Plaquemines coroner to live in the parish in l2 years. He was elected coroner in 1991, assumed office in 1992, and was serving the first year of his second term. He had worked in Plaquemines as a doctor for 14 years, opening his private practice in Port Sulphur in 1984. He also worked as a staff physician, dirertor of intensive care, and chief of medical staff at Plaquemines Parish General Hospital until it closed in 1989. Dr. Knox was born in Fargo, North Dakota, and earned his bachelors and undergraduate medical degree from North Dakota State University He earned a doctorate in medicine from the University of Iowa and interned at Los Angeles County Hospital. He trained in emergency medicine in Muskegon County Michigan, and internal medicine at Tulane Medical Center. He is survived by two children who live out of state. ***** Funeral services for Dr. C.M. "Mickey" Koonce of White Oak were held at First United Methodist Church of Longview, with the Rev. Bill Cunningham officiating Entombment followed at Lakeview Mausoleum, under the direction of Rader Funeral Dr. Koonce died, Monday, May 31 in a hospital from complications of diabetes. Born July 6, 1935 in Carthage, Dr. Koonce graduated from Tyler High School, where he participated in all sports and choir. He attended Tyler Junior College where he was captain of the football team. While attenting North 1Thxas State University he was named to the Dallas Morning News All-Texas football squad. He received his bachelor of science and his doctorate in education from NTSU. Dr. Koonce began his long career as a teacher and coach at Grapevine High School in 1958, becoming principle of the middle school in 1960 and principal of the high school in 1965. In 1968 he became superntendent of Midlothian ISD, and he was hired as superintendent of White oak ISD in 1973. He went on to positions as assistant executive director of Sabine Valley Center in 1987, and superintendent of Argyle ISD in 1989. He retired from Argyle in 1998. Throughout his tenure as an educator, Dr. Koonce respected the value of students, faculty and staff and was concerned with all facets of the school program. He was instrumental in building programs at all the schools where he served. Dr. Koonce received many awards throughout his career, but the one he cherished most was the naming of a gymnasium after him in Argyle. He was a member of the White Oaks Lions Club as well as Masonic Lodge, Phi Delta Kappa, Jaycees and Rotary Club. He also belonged to the Tarrant County Superintendents and Principals Association and the Argyle Chamber of Commerce and served on the Gregg County Appraisal District Survivors include his wife, Sandra Koonce of White Oak; a son and daughter-in-law, Keith and Kristi Koonce of white Oak and their children Clayton, Travis and Kristin: a daughter, Kim Koonce-Burgin of White Oak and her daughter Shaynee; another son and daughter-in-law Kevin and Claire Koonce of white Oak and their daughter Haley; and one sister, Jo Ellis of Tyler. Dr. Koonce is the son-in-law of Mae McKinney-Bertheaud. ***** Joyce Chaussier Borrello a homemaker died Saturday May 23 of cancer at her home She was 70 Mrs Borello was born in New Orleans and lived in Braith waite for the past 38 years. She was a former employee of the plaquemines ParishSheriff'sOffice. Simmons was born September 28, 1905 in Pilottown Bayou, La., to William and Laura Wright Hansen. In 1934, she married Henry "Dewey" Simmons in Pilottown. He died March 30, 1960. Simmons was a homemaker and self-employed seamstress. She enjoyed fishing with her husband and playing cards with friends, and was interested in a greeting card ministry. She is remembered as a master cake decorator. Simmons belonged to the Order of the Eastern Star and was clerk for many years of the Plaquemines Baptist Association.
