I, David Johnston, Branch Pilot at the Balize Parish of Plaquemines, State of Louisiana being at present sound mind and body, but aware of the uncertainity of human life and derevous of avoiding difficutlies hereafter, deem prepen to make this my last will and testament. I was born in Wilkinson County, State of Georgia, my father and mother are both dead, and I have neither Brothers nor Sister living. I married on the 5 of February 1840, with Hanna Frederika Hoffmann and we have now one son aged 5 years named Alexander Henry Johnston, there was no marriage contract between my wife and myself and all our property has been acquired since the marriage. I bequeath everything I may own at the time of my death, after deducting the one half to which my wife shall be entitled. To my son Alexander Henry Johnston. I desire that my wife be confirmed as natural tutrix of our child and that my friend David Shepheerd should be appointed his under tutor. I appoint my wife, Hanna Frederika Hoffmann, executrix of this my will and testament and wish that my succession be settled with as few legalities as possible. Done at the Balize, Parish of Plaquemines on the 17th day of August 1846. Signed David Johnston
