Cleveland Fruge'. ------------------------------- Judge Gremillion was appointed to the Ninth District, Division A, on March 10, 1969. He was born February 10, 1919, in Alexandria, Louisiana. His parents were Dr. Field Gremillion and Alice Callaway. He attended and graduated from menard High School in 1936, Spring Hill College, Mobile, Alabama, with a B.S. degree in 1940. Following graduation he entered the Corps of Engineers, U.S. Army, March 13, 1942, and after basic and advanced combat training at Fort Belvoir, Va., was assigned the the 834th Battalion (AVN). On August 6, 1942, he embarked for overseas duty and landed in the British Isles August 14, 1942. Overseas duty included construction of bomber bases in England, landing in Normandy, France, June 6, 1944, with an advance unit for construction of Emergency landing strips. He was in continuous duty until VE day in all important fronts and advances and he received the Bronze Arowhead, and Campaign stars for Rhineland, Central Europe, Normandy, Northern France, German occupation, Victory, as well as the Presidential Citation. The war's end left him in Nuremburg. Upon release from service, he married Nellie Pugh of Alexandria and enrolled at L.S.U. Law School which he finished in 1949. Upon certification by the Supreme Court, he entered practice with Camille Gravel and C.H. Downs and several years later formed the partnership of Downs and Gremillion which endured until he was appointed Judge March 10, 1969. He has five children, Field Gremillion III, Mary Louise, Douglas E., Donald J., and Paul. He lives in Pineville, Louisiana. He is a Catholic and a member of Sacred Heart Church in Pineville and is a member of the lay council of that church.
