Barnidge Cemetery, Rapides Parish Louisiana Submitted by Jane Parker McManus ********************************************** Copyright. Turn left at Hineston onto Parish Rd. 112, and go 4.8 miles. Turn right on Elmer Road, and go .3 miles. Turn left on Durand Road and go .8 miles, and turn left on Gordey Road. This small cemetery (perhaps 20' x 25') is in a fenced area just behind the home of Curtis Gordey. The family purchased the property in the 1930's from the Barnidge family. The burial ground is maintained by the Gordey family, and permission must be obtained from the current owners prior to entering the grounds. If the family is not at home, guard dogs are well trained to protect the property. The small, concrete stones in this cemetery were very difficult to read. Tombstone inscriptions were recorded by Mary Parker Partain and Jack Fraziar, Jr. in April 1993. Submitted by Jane P. McManus June 5, 2000 ***** A grandchild of the Barnidges who died at birth, the innocent victim of a feud between the Barnidges and their neighbors, the Barrs is believed to be buried here. The legend of this feud is best left to their own family historians and not to the speculation of this "ole graveyard reader." There are several unmarked graves (depressions), and small pickets (carved on top) in this cemetery; possibly one of these is the baby's grave. * * * * * Barnidge, Daughter of A. P. & S. L.
