Booneville Cemetery (African-American),Rapides Parish Louisiana Submitted by Jane Parker McManus ********************************************** Copyright. The Booneville Cemetery is located on the left side between the highway and Bayou Beouf, approximately 5.2 miles past the signal light in Cheneyville. In front of the small white-frame church is a large sign: "Wesley United Methodist Church, Rev. Emmett Collins, Pastor Serving God's Children since 1869" This African-American cemetery is called Booneville because that was the name of the community where it was located. Recording began near the highway in rows from left to right, parallel to the road. The Church is on the left of the cemetery and no graves are behind the church building. Some areas of the grounds have very tall grass, but most of the graveyard had been cut recently. There were too many vaults or slabs with no inscriptions or identification, to be listed herein. The numbers were counted, however, and will be listed at the end of the record. There were also many exact depressions that signify burials, with no way to identify the burials. Those appear to be in the oldest section here. Tombstone inscriptions were recorded 15 October 1996 by Mary Parker Partain.
