MEXICAN CEMETERY - RAPIDES PARISH

Very little information is available on this little cemetery.  Woodworth,
like so many small communities in Rapides Parish, was once a thriving
lumber town.  Many of the workers were Mexicans, working and living far
from their homes.  These families followed the timber industry, and when
one of their members died, by necessity the burial ground had to be near
the work area.

To the rear of the large Woodworth Cemetery, outside the fence and down the
road, was the Mexican Cemetery.  There is no indication now that there was
ever a cemetery in this location.  The land has changed hands several times
since the timber industry moved on.  The Mexican workers moved on, possibly
never to return or maybe to return and find their ancestors' resting place
is now a pasture, or a back yard, or the site of a beautiful new home.

Local residents remember that some of these migrant workers did return and
were very disturbed that their burial place was not respected.  Since there
was never a deed to the plot of land, nothing could be done.  We regret
there is no other information available.
