Nichols Cemetery, Rapides Parish Louisiana Submitted by Jane Parker McManus ********************************************** Copyright. About 3.0 miles past Gardner, turn left onto Nichols Cemetery Road. Go 1.5 miles to end of the road. This cemetery is fenced and well maintained, with beds of flowers and concrete benches. There are many unmarked burials scattered throughout the cemetery, as well as small concrete markers to designate unmarked burials. Those will not be listed here. According to local residents, this cemetery was founded about ten years before the Civil War by the Nichols Family. John and James Nichols bought fought in the war, and they donated the land for the burial ground. Throughout the years, it has been cared for and improved by the Nichols family, including providing a well in order to water the flowers and shrubs. This is also the site of the annual Nichols Family Reunion and "cemetery working." Tombstone inscriptions were recorded by Mary Parker Partain March 1990, and submitted by Jane Parker McManus on 28 January 2000.
