It is about two or three acres in size, well maintained, and fenced. Burials are scattered throughout the area, therefore, tombstone inscriptions were recorded as approached from the Main Gate by Mary Parker Partain, June 1990, and submitted by Jane Parker McManus (mcmanus@linknet.net). * * * History * * * Camp 8 Turpentine Camp was a community of Black, White, and Mexican laborers who tapped the pine trees and gathered the turpentine. In the early 1900's when the mill "cut out" and moved away, it left at least one small burial ground. A Mexican graveyard was supposed to be behind the present fenced cemetery, but nothing remains at this time to mark the spot except a small knoll of pine trees.
