Schoolhouse Cemetery, Rapides Parish Louisiana Submitted by Jane Parker Mcmanus ********************************************** Copyright. Continue about 4.0 miles, and turn right on Denny Rd. (BEFORE Philadelphia Church). About .5 miles past Craig Cemetery and past Hertz Road, stop at second house on right for directions. The cemetery is in the woods behind this house, and was here when the property was purchased by the Campbell family. We could not find anyone who knew about the family buried here. Only one stone was found, and it was broken and leaning on its base. There were many depressions in this area that might indicate the graveyard was quite large at one time. A church was also located here; and as was the custom many years ago, many churches and schools were once housed in the same building. Possibly, this is the reason for the name "Schoolhouse Cemetery." Tombstone inscription recorded by Mary Parker Partain, September 1993, and submitted by Jane P. McManus, 8 April 2001. Curry, S. R., the wife of E. J. Curry - died 25 Jul 1904, 60 yrs E.J.C. - [These initials were found on a small block about six feet from Mrs. Curry's burial, that indicates, her husband's marker may have been here.]
