Unnamed Cemetery (African-American), Rapides Parish Louisiana Submitted by Jane Parker McManus ********************************************** Copyright. The remains of a large African-American cemetery with only a few marked graves are in a clearing. The burial ground is not fenced, and is bounded on three sides by a cane field. The fourth side is marked by a turn-row between cemetery and railroad tracks. Although the area is kept clear of large brush, the stones that remain were covered with briars and were difficult to find. There were dozens of depressions that could indicate lost graves. Several concrete bases and half-covered slabs were evident, some broken, and all were completely unreadable. Tombstone inscriptions were recorded by Mary Parker Partain, October 1993, and submitted by Jane P. McManus, 5 August 2000. Gillum, Freddie L. - 6 Sep 1930/2 Jun 1957, Pfc. 508th QM Salvage Co.
