Thursday, Oct. 23. District Court met last Thursday as per adjournment, His Honor, Judge Blackman presiding. Case No. 2914, intitled J.F. Kelly vs. N.O.P.R.R. Co., being set for that day was taken up and trial entered into. After hearing the evidence and argument of counsel, the jury retired to their room, and after a short delay returned the following: "We, the jury find the plaintiff judgment for the sum of $175." Friday, Oct. 24 Case of R.M. Walmsley vs. W.J.S.Johnson, being a jury case, was called by preferment and trial entered into. After continuing in the labors of the case until night, and finding that it could not be finished last evening, the Court Adjourned until 9 o'clock Saturday morning. Saturday, Oct. 25 The case of R.M. Wamsley vs. W.J.S. Johnson taken up and unfinished on Friday, was resumed Saturday, and after exhaustive arguments of counsel, was submitted to the jury at 5:30 o'clock pm, and up to the time of our going to press, they had not returned a verdict. Monday, Oct. 27 The case of the State vs. Stephen Chapter, (col) being set for Monday, was called, but owing to the absence of important witnesses for the State, the case was continued. The Court Monday ordered an additional jury for this week and next week. There being no further business, the Court adjourned until Tuesday morning at 9 o'clock. Note. - The jury in the case of R.M. Wamsley vs. W.J.S. Johnson. brought in a verdict for the plaintiff, Wamsley, on last Saturday night. Tuesday, Oct. 28 State vs. A.E. Watson, charged with carrying concealed weapons. Re-assigned. State vs. A.E. Watson, resisting an officer, In this case a jury was empaneled and case submitted, and the following verdict was promptly rendered. Not Guilty. State vs. Alee Jones (larceny) Tried by jury and a verdict of guilty rendered. State vs. Esaw Pugh and Pompey Tyler, (larceny) Tried by jury and verdict of guilty was rendered against Esaw Pugh, recommending him to mercy of Court. State vs. McJones (concealed weapons) continued. State vs. Pascal Robinson (shooting with intent to kill) jury impaneled, but case unfinished. Wednesday, Oct. 29 State vs. Pascal Robinson (col.) shooting with intent to kill, unfinished from Tuesday, was resumed, and submitted to jury. The jury could not agree and were discharged. State vs. Jno. B. Brister charged with assault and battery was next called and tried by court. He was found guilty of assault and was fined $10 and costs, which was promptly paid. Thursday, Oct. 30 On Thursday morning the case of the State vs. Gilbert Dubois, accused of murder, was called. Trial was entered into, and continued until after dark, after which time the jury were locked up to resume case on Friday morning, and took all day to finish same.
