P. 281-282 - Filed 17 Oct 1812 - No. 357 - John Henry of the County of Rapides claims six hundred and forty acres of land, situated on the right bank of the Washita (Ouachita) River, about three miles above the mouth of Little River in the County of Rapides, bounded below by other Lands of the claimant and above by Vacant Lands, accompanied by a Deed of Sale from Theophilus Hughes to the claimant, executed before Robert Hall, Judge of the Parish of Catahoula. No. 359 - Joseph Thomas of the County of Rapides claims a tract of land containing six hundred and forty acres in said County on the Right Bank of Black River, bounded above by Land claimed by Joseph Harris and below by Vacant Lands. No. 360 - Alexander Mahan of the County of Rapides claims a tract of Land containing six hundred and forty acres situated in the County of Rapides onthe Right Bank of the Washita River, bounded below by the original line of John Hebrerd and above by unknown. P. 282 - Filed 17 Oct 1812 - No. 361 - John Shults of the County of Rapides claims a tract of land containing 640 acres on the Left Bank of Red River above the Rapides (rapids) nearly opposite the land of William Brown, bounded above and below by vacant lands. No. 362 - Robert Wilson of the County of Rapides claims a Tract of land of eight hundred arpents to wit: twenty arpents front by the depth of forty arpents on the right bank of Black River in the County of Rapides, bounded above by land claimed by James White, the above tract was conceded to the claimant by a requete (French for request) signed by Valentine Layssard, Commandant of the Post of Rapides. P. 283 - Filed 19 Oct 1812 - No. 363 - The Heirs of Gabriel Martin claim a tract of land containing 250 superficial acres situated on the left Bank of Bayou Rapides in the County of Rapides, bounded above by land belonging to Alexander Innis & below by land conceded by the Spanish Government to Valentine Deville and extending in depth to Red River - which tract of land was purchased by the Father of the claimants in his lifetime from William Cook - A Plat of Survey by Mr. Stone dated 2d November 1812 is herewith filed. NOTE: The survey shows this tract bounded on the north by land of A. Innis, on the west by Bayou Rapides, on the south by Adam Hoffman's (Huffman) survey and lands of Martin and others under old surveys, no lines discovered (marked trees, post in the ground, etc. and on the east by land of Madame LaPrairie. Survey is signed, Mattw. Stone, DS Witnessed by Mathew Nugent and Elisha Wallace P. 299 - Filed 22 Oct 1812 No. 399 - Hugh Bailey of the Parish of Rapides claims a tract of 800 superficial arpents of land having 20 arpents front by the depth of 40 arpents, situated on the North side of the Red River in the place called Pointe Maigre in the County of Rapides, adjoing land of Mrs. Mary Lacraw (sic, LaCroix), widow, which tract of land has been occupied and cultivated. A Plat of Survey by William Cook then a surveyor under the Spanish Government for Nicholas Grubb, a former proprietor, dated 7th Nnovember 1791 accompanies this notice. NOTE: The surveyor's field notes show that he started near a Water Hole in the Prairie...to a Bitter Peckown (Pecan) by the side a Gut (?) in the Prairie. No. 401 - Joseph Gauthier of the Parish of Avoyelles claims a Tract of Land, containing one hundred and sixty superficial arpents, to wit: four arpents front by the depth of forty arpents, situated in the Prairie of Avoyelles in the County of Rapides, bounded on one side by land of Anrcisse Mayeux & on the other side by land of Joseph Roy - A Deed of Sale from Plauche & brothers to the claimant accompanies this notice. P. 309 - Filed 29 Oct 1812 No. 427 - Ann Wade, widow of Richard Wade, late of the County of Rapides, claims a Tract of land containing 800 superficial arpents, situated on the Right Bank of Red River about 3 miles below the Town of Alexandria, deriving the title by purchase from George Wolf who held under the Spanish Government, a Deed of Sale is herewith attached. Louisiana, Rapide, July 15th 1792 - Know all men by these presents that I George Wolf for and in consideration of the the forty dollars to me in hand paid by Ann Wade the receipt whereof I hereby acknowledge have bargained and sold and by these presents Bargain and Sell unto her and to her Heirs and assigns forever all that Tract of land, wituated, lying and being on the Bank of Red River, beginning at the mouth of the Cut Off and running up said River 20 arpents with the ordinary depth containing 800 arpents, To have to hold the same unto the said Ann Wade, and to her Heirs and assigns forever, the Title whereof I will warrant and defend. Witness my hand and seal the date above said. P. 310-311 - Filed 24 Oct 1812 - No. 432 - Madam Widow (of) Joseph Renois claims a Tract of land of five arpents front situated on Bayou Rapide above the land of the Apalache (Indians) including a Bad Cabin, which tract was purchased by the said Late Joseph Renois from Robert McKim as appears by Deed of Sale herewith filed. (Text of the following is in French, extract only) 29 Oct 1785 in presence of Etienne Marafret :Layssard, Robert McKim sells to Joseph Renois a tract of land having 5 arpents face with a mauvais (bad) cabin and being above land of the Apalache. P. 311 - Filed 24 Oct 1812 - No. 433 - Beverly Chew claims a tract of four hundred acres of Land, situated on the left Bank of Bayou Rapides, the said Tract being sold by Walker to Fulton and by Fulton to the claimant the saidT ract of land having been inhabited and cultivated as required by law. P. 322 - Filed 26 Oct 1812 No. 448 - John Holloway of the County of Rapides claims 15 arpents front by a depth of 40 arpents. Situated above the Head of Charlete's Prairie, between Dyson's Creek and Horsepen Creek, on a small bayou called Middle Fork. Bounded on 1 side by other land of James Holloway and on other sides by Vacant Lands. A requette (request for settlement) in the name of the claimant approved by the late commandant of the Post of Rapides, a copy of which is here filed. Text in French, dated 1 Aug 1796 P. 324 No. 455 - Elijah Miller of the County of Rapides claims a Tract of Land containing 640 acres. Situated on Bayou Boeuf, founded on the Right of Settlement. Filed 26 Oct 1812. No. 456 - John M. Martin of the County of Rapides claims a Tract of Land of 6 arpents front on the left bank of Bayou Boeuf. Bounded on the upper side by land of John Marcot (Marcotte) and on the lower side by land occupied by Nicholas Chattelin. Founded on the Settlement first made by Gideon Walker and subsequently continued as required by law. Filed 26 Oct 1812. P. 336 No. 484 - Jean Baptiste Poirier (Poiret) of the Parish of Rapides claims a Tract of 400 superficial arpents of Land having 10 arpents front on the right bank of Red River, about 3 miles below the mouth of Bayou Jean de Jean. Bounded on the upper side by lands claimed by this claimant. Tract has been inhabited and cultivated, as required by law. Filed 28 Oct 1812. No. 485 - Francois Rachal of the Parish of Rapides claims a Tract of 400 superficial arpents of Land having 10 arpents front on the right bank of Red River, about 3 miles below the mouth of Bayou Jean de Jean. Bounded on the upper side by lands claimed by Jean Bte. Poirier. Tract has been inhabited and cultivated, as required by law. Filed 28 Oct 1812. No. 486 - Francois Poirier of the Parish of Rapides claims a Tract of four hundred superficial arpents of land, to wit: ten arpents front by forty indepth, situated on the right bank of Red River about three miles below the mouth of Bayou Jean de Jean in the said Parish, and bounded above by land claimed by Francois Rachal, which tract hath been inhabited and cultivated as required by law. P. 341 - Filed 28 Oct 1812 No. 500 - Richard Earls (Earl) Senior of the County of Rapides claims a Tract of Land of 640 acres situated in the Catahoula Settlement. Being the same on which the claimant resides and has been inhabited and cultivated as required by law. No. 501 - Mathew Earls (Earl) of the Parish of Catahoula, County of Rapides claims a Tract of Land containing 640 acres situated in the Prairie of Boeuf. Bounded on one side by Benjamin Lindsay and on the other by Vacant Land. Being the same on which the claimant at present resides. No. 502 - Benjamin Lindsay of the County of Rapides claims a Tract of Land containing 640 acres. Situated in the Prairie of Boeuf on which the claimant resides. Bounded on one side by Mathew Earl and on the other by Vacant Land and has been inhabited and cultivated as required by law. P. 342 - Filed 28 Oct 1812 No. 503 - James Levins (Leavins) Senior of the County of Rapides claims a Tract of 640 acres. Situated on Sicily Island on which the claimant resides. NOTE: Sicily Island is so named in that it has creeks, bayous and/or rivers completely surrounding this large tract of land. And when plotted out on a map, resembles the shape of the Mediterranean island of the same name off the coast of Italy. P. 380 - Filed 29 Oct 1812 No. 570 - Reuben Ray of the County of Rapides claims a Tract of 640 acres situated on the left bank of Bayou Boeuf. Bounded on the lower side by land belonging to the Heirs of Peter McDaniel and on the upper side by Vacant lands. Claim is made by Right of Occupancy. No. 571 - Moses Evans claims a Tract of 640 acres situated on the right bank of Bayou Boeuf. Bounded on all sides by Vacant land. Being the place on which Daniel Menchey (?) resided and which has been inhabited and cultivated, as required by law. No. 572 - Joseph Irwin claims a Tract of 640 acres situated in the Prairie Boeuf which has been occupied and cultivated, as required by law. A copy of a Deed of Sale is herewith filed. Text in English. William Gardner of the County of Opelousas sells to Joseph Irwin, Junior for $5.00 cash an Improvement made by the said Gardner in the year 1807 upon the Bayou Boeuf at a place known as the Prairie of Bayou Boeuf. P. 386 - Filed 29 Oct 1812 No. 588 - John Louis Lacroix claims a tract of land having 6 arpents front with a depth of 40 arpents. Situated in the right bank ascending (north side) of Bayou Rapides, bounded above by the land of Nicholas Welch and below by Public Land. Claim is made by Virtue of a Requette (request) granted to Michael Hooter the younger herewith filed. Tract has been inhabited and cultivated as required by law. Text in French - Dated at Rapide 25 Jun 1801 and Granted 22 Jul 1801 - By Cesar Archinard. Request written to Don Ramon de Lopez y Augulos, Intendant General of the Provinces of the Louisiana & Florida Occidental (West Florida). [signed] Michael Hooter the younger P. 387 - Filed 29 Oct 1812 No. 589 - Charles Mulholland claims a Tract of 640 acres situated in the Pine Woods on the Southwest side of Bayou Boeuf, about 7 miles above the mouth of Bayou Robert. Adjoining lands claimed and settled by John Stephens above fronting on the bayou and Vacant on all other sides. Which tract claimant holds by Permission from Benjamin Routh and a Sale to the claimant. Same has been inhabited and cultivated, as required by law. Copy of the Deed is attached. Text in English - Dated 29 Mar 1806 - Before Thomas Dawson, Judge of the County of Rapides, Territory of Orleans. Appeared George Stephens, attorney in-fact for Benjamin Routh of said County, sells for $100 cash to Charles Mulholland. Property held by Routh by Improvement. Witnesses: Fredk. Walker, Wm. Miller Certified by R. Claiborne, JP of Rapides. No. 590 - Charles Mulholland claims a Tract having 10 arpents front, situated on the left bank of Bayou l'amoureaux (Lamourie) or Bayou Lamore. Claimed by a Requette (request to occupy) and an Order of Survey to Jacques McAnulty (sic). Same has been inhabited and cultivated, as required by law. Copies of Request and Granting of the same accompany this claim. Text in French - Request dated at Rapide 13 Oct 1797 and addressed to Monsieur Don Manuel Gayoso de lemos, "Bridgadie dest armee'", Governor and Intendant General of the Province of Louisiana. Shows land bounded by Charles Kenman (sic) and lands of the King. [signed] D. Layssard Grant dated at New Orleans 25 Jan 1798 [signed] Manuel Gayoso de Lemos P. 391-392 - Filed 30 Oct 1812 No. 600 - Reuben T. Sackett claims a tract of 640 acres situated on the West branch of Cotile or Hemphill's Bayou. Being the tract first improved by Thomas McCarrol (sic), who sold to Baptiste Poirier (Poiret), who sold to John Wray (Ray), who sold to John Wiley, who by Deed of Sale, acknowledged before private witnesses and dated 23 Dec 1811 transferred his right and title to the present claimant. The Deed of Sale and a Plat of Survey by George J. Williams, not dated, but said to have been made for Baptiste Poirier accompany this claim. Text in English - Dated 23 Dec 1811 - John Wiley of the Parish of Rapides and Territory of Orleans sells to Reuben Sackett for $130 cash, paid to me at the House of Duncan & Jackson of New Orleans, 640 acres of land with improvements. Being the ame tract improved by Thomas McCarroll (sic). [signed] John Wylie (sic) R. Sackett Witnesses: William Justice, James McGlolin (sic, McGlothlin or McGlaughlin) NOTE: The Plat of Survey and the Field Notes of the that survey, clearly show that it was done in the name of Baptiste Poreau (sic, Poiret). It shows it is located in Township 4 and Range 4, but no Section number is shown. It is an irregular tract being comprised of two squares and a rectangle, laid end to end, but staggered, having a stairstep appearance. P. 393 - All filed 30 Oct 1812 No. 601 - Benjamin Miller claims eight hundred arpents of land in the Parishof Rapides situated on both sides of Red River at and known by the name of the White Bluffs about six miles below Alexandria by virtue of settlement and occupancy as required by law. No. 602 - Marcus McGlolin (McGlothlin ?) claims eight hundred superficial arpents of land situated on the North Side of Little River, which tract of land had been inhabited and cultivated as required by law. No. 603 - John Laflora claims a tract of six hundred acres of land on the right Bank of Red River at the cut off in the County of Rapides commencing at the mouth of Little Sandy Bayou, and there extending up the Bayou River, by virtue of Settlement as required by law. No. 604 - Paul Cavena claims the Islands of Bayou Lamorin & Bayou De Lac, which have been inhabited and cultivated as required by law. No. 605 - James McLaughlin claims a tract of four hundred and eighty superficial acres of Land situated on the East side of Red River below the Indian (Apalache) Village, which tract hath been inhabited and cultivated as required by law. No. 606 - Charles B. Harvey of the Parish of Catahoula claims a tract of six hundred and forty acres of Land situated on the left Bank of Big Creek in the said Parish, which hath been inhabited and cultivated as required by law. A Plat of Survey is herewith filed. NOTE: The survey shows Bayou Crocodile(Cocodrie) [today known as Alligator Bayou], which is south Rapides and Big Creek is in present-day Grant Parish running near Dry Prong and Pollock to Little River. This land's location also is undeniably on the North side of Red River. P. 417 - Filed 31 Oct 1812 No. 656 - Roza (sic) Meuillon (sic) Wells of the County of Rapides claims 15 arpents front by 40 arpents deep, situated on Bayou Boeuf. Bounded on one side by land claimed by Louisa Meuillon. Which tract has been inhabited and cultivated, as required by law. A Requette (request to occupy) in the name of the Claimant certified by V. Layssard is filed. Text in a broken French & Spanish - Dated at Rapide 15 Feb 1803 Addressed to Don Juan Venta. (Ventura) Morales Roza Meullion (sic) Wells, Nesina (sic, do not find a word in the French or Spanish to translate) of the Post of Rapide. This shows the land to be situated on "Bayu Challo" bounded by Dona (Spanish term for a woman of importance or Good Blood. It is likely that this is the wife of the last Commandant of Rapide Post, Ennemond Meuillion.) Louisa Meullion (sic) [signed] Rose' Meullion Certified by Vtin. [Valentin] Layssard
