All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** CHENEYVILLE Cheneyville in latitude 31 degrees north and longitude 15 degrees west, is one of the oldest towns in Rapides. It was charted by the Legislature in 1836. In 1816 Beulah Baptist Church was organized at the point with three members, being the second Protestant or Baptist society in Louisiana, the first being that at Calvary in Bayou Chicot in 1812. In 1889 Eiverview Baptist Church was organized here by Rev. E. O. Ware. In the history of this parish, of Alexandria City and of Avoyelles, references are made to the military and civil history of this old town. In 1855 Gordy Lodge, A. F. & A. M., was established here succeeding Hiram Lodge, which surrendered in 1849 after twenty years work.
