Born in Dennison, TX, and raised in Shreveport, Mr. Pipkin, a graduate of Dillard U., was the son of James Pipkin and Eunice McPherson Pipkin. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Vernon, Cleveland and Hermit. During the mid-30s to early 40s, Mr. Pipkin taught math and band music at Shreveport's Central Colored High School. Moving to New York City in 1943, he became an Associate Engineer at Western Electric/AT&T, from where he retired in 1975. After retirement, he relocated to Dallas, TX. Much loved, and a devoted husband and father, he is survived by his wife of 57 years, Sophie Edwards Pipkin, two daughters, Loretta Pipkin of Dallas, TX and Zelda P.Dunston of New York, grandchildren, Gitiim and Matidi Chakamoi of Texas, and Wendy L. Jones, Derrick Logan and Monica S. Logan of New York, 6 great-grandchildren, several gr-gr-grandchildren, sisters, Mildred Dilworth and Cordia Raggio of Los Angeles, and nieces and nephews. Mr. Pipkin was buried August 3rd at Restland Cemetery, Court of Faith, in Dallas, TX. Pallbearers included grandchildren, Gitiim and Matidi Chakamoi.
