(Colfax, Grant Parish, La.) 1877-1981, April 24, 1915, Image 3 DIED. - JARREAU - At the family residence, corner of Fourth and St. James streets, Alexandria, La., on Friday, April 16, 1915, at 7:08 a. m., Elizabeth Barrett Jarreau, aged 42 years, beloved wife of Rollo C. Jarreau. Services were conducted at the residence at 4 o'clock by Rev. W. Lennie-Smith, Rector of Christ Episcopal Church, after which the procession moved to Mt. Olivet cemetery, Pineville, where interment was made. This estimable lady was seriously ill for about three weeks before her death. She bore her sufferings with great fortitude, and fully realized that the end was near. She was resigned to what was to happen, and was ready in peaceful trust to meet her Maker. The most careful attention at the hands of her loved ones, and medical skill, were unable to stay the hand of Death, and she passed away, surrounded by those who loved her. A lifelong member of the Episcopal church, she was a devoted worker in church and Sunday school circles. She had been a member of Christ Church, West Alexandria, since that church was established, and her thoughtful and loving activities will be sadly missed by this congregation. She was born in this city on May 2, 1973 (sic), and was the eldest daughter of the late John M. and Mrs. Mary Barrett. Her entire life was spent in this city, her education being accomplished in this city and at the State Normal at Natchitoches, where she graduated with high honors. Her literary attainments particularly fitted her for newspaper work, she attending to the society news for the Town Talk for a number of years. On June 14, 1892, she was united in marriage with Rollo C. Jarreau. Of this union there were two children - Miss Zulma Jarreau, at present engaged in teaching in the kindergarten department of the public schools of this city; and Roland, who lived but a few years. Mrs. Jarreau is survived by her husband and daughter, Miss Zulma Jarreau; her mother, Mrs. John M. Barrett; and three sisters, Mrs. John M. Edgar, of Olivier, La., and Misses Sarah and Susie Barrett, of this city. The death of Mrs. Jarreau has cast a shadow over the entire city, and the bereaved family has the sincere sympathy of the entire community. A lovely christian character, her memory will be cherished in fond remembrance by all who knew her. She was devoted to her husband and daughter, on whom the sad bereavement falls hardest. - Alexandria Town Talk.
