Alexandria, Rapides Parish, Louisiana November 24, 1897 Page 3; Column 2 Killed by a Runaway Team. Mrs. Melanie Levy, a former resident of this parish, was killed a few miles from Dallas, Texas, last Thursday. It appears that she was one of a party who had been out during the day gathering pecans. As the returning party came within a few miles of the city, a team of horses which had been left standing by the roadside, became frightened at the bicycles and wheeling, ran in the direction of the buggies, which had just gone by. On approaching the read buggy, occupied by Mrs. Levy and Mrs. Weil, the runaway team ran over the buggy and its occupants, with the effect of shattering the vehicle, seriously injuring Mrs. Weil and killing Mrs. Levy. Mrs. Levy was about 42 years of age, widow of the late David Levy, of Cheneyville, and a daughter of Jonas Weil, also deceased. She leaves a daughter, about 17 years of age, to mourn her premature decease. The deceased is also a niece of Mrs. Bernard Ehrstein, at whose residence the remains rested until they were interred in the Jewish cemetery, Pineville, La., on Sunday afternoon, beside those of her predeceased husband.
