BALL - The deceased was born in Kentucky, Oct. 26, 1827...early in life he married Miss Pauline TALLY..., who passed away three years ago...the family resulting from this union consisted of eleven children...for many years Mr. BALL operated saw mills in this state, employing all classes of labor, good, bad and indifferent. No man ever performed an hour's labor for him without receiving full compensation. Before the war (American Civil War), Captain BALL for some years engaged in steamboating, hence his title, Captain. C.E. BALL and Pauline TALLY. He was born on DAVID Plantation two miles below Alexandria on January 12, 1873...and had resided in Rapides Parish all of his life...He was probably one of the largest property owners in the parish and was engaged in many business enterprises...for many years identified with the Iron Mountain Lumber Company at Pollock, La. one of the largest lumber concerns in Central Louisiana in which the GOULD's were largely interested...Later, as a large stockholder and president of J.F. BALL and Bros. Lumber Company, he and his brother, John W. BALL operated a saw mill at Ball, La. ...Mr. BALL is survived by his wife, who was Miss Sarah HOFFMAN, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Wyatt HOFFMAN of Pineville; one son, James Fish BALL, Jr. ; and one daughter, Miss Helene BALL. He also leaves three brothers: Robert L., John W. and Joseph T. BALL; and two sisters: Mrs. S. BARRETT & Mrs. W.H. BARRON, all of Pineville. His funeral took place yesterday afternoon at 5 o'clock.
