D-3. Paul Mechlin Eakin, a native of Pittsburgh, but a long-time resident of Bunkie, died 6 February 1995 in St. Frances Cabrini ospital,Alexandria, LA. He graduated magna cum laude from Louisiana State University in 1940. He did graduate work at L.S.U. in cultural geography and illustrated several of his wife's published books with photographs. He was a research-editorial officer for the Historical Records Survey, a division of the Works Projects Administration. He was head of the Louisiana statewide organization in its closing year. He was the former publisher of the Bunkie Record newspaper. He was an accountant for the Haas Investment Company in Bunkie, LA and opened the Eakin & Associates Accounting Firm in 1949. Later he was an accountant for the Farmer's Dusting Company and Wright Insurance Company. Survivors: wife, Dr. Sue Eakin, PhD. of Bunkie; daughter, Dr. Sara Kuhn of Signal Mountain, TN; 4 sons: Dr. Paul Eakin Jr. of Lexington, KY; Russell Eakin of Mexico City, Mexico and Mandeville, LA; Sam Eakin of Alexandria; Frank Eakin III of Richmond, TX. sister, Eleanor Bires of Horseshoe Bay, TX; 2 brothers: Lloyd Eakin of Tucson, AZ and Frank Eakin II of Somerville, NJ; Also, 12 grandchildren. Services were at Trinity Episcopal Church in Cheneyville conducted by Rev. James Bump of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Sutersville, PA; Dr. Keith Uffman of First Presbyterian Church in Hammond, LA; Rev. Rand Guy of Springfield Methodist Church; Rev. Henry Pickens of Beulah Baptist Church in Cheneyville, LA. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II serving as a warrant officer and retired from Texaco Chemical in Port Neches, Texas, with 30 years service. He was a member of the Baptist faith serving for years as a deacon.
