He retired as circulation manager of Alexandria Daily Town Talk after 40 years of service. He was president of Southern Circulation Managers Association for a number of years. He was a member and former president of the Optimist Club of Alexandria. He assisted in the development of Lake Buhlow as a recreational site and later conducted the World Championship Boat Races there, under the auspices of the Optimist Club.
