Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery in Monticello, AR, under the direction of Hixson Brothers, Alexandria. Mr. Echols was born December 14, 1914, in Monticello, AR to Don and Nettie Owens Echols. He passed away Thursday, July 16, 2009, at his residence in Alexandria. Harry served in the U. S. Navy submarine fleet during World War II on two submarines; the Stingray SS-186, and the Pintado SS-387 which won the Presidential Unit Citation for extraordinary skill and heroism. He retired from Sun Oil Company as a Master Craftsman and was an avid golfer. He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Lucille Majors Echols; his parents, Don and Nettie Owens Echols; brothers, Laron Echols, Joe Echols, Doyle Echols, Guy Echols, Don Henry Echols, Jr. and sister Martha Echols Smith. Those left to cherish his memory include his sons, Steve Echols and his wife, Marcy, of Plano, Texas; Sam Echols, Sr. and his wife, Marianna, of Forest Hill, LA; grandchildren, Mollie Robichaux and husband Doug of Shreveport, Sam Echols, Jr. of Forest Hill and Kim Kainer and husband Patrick of Austin, TX; three great grandsons, Will, Benjamin, and Jonathan Robichaux; brother, Harvey Echols of Bastrop, and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Saturday, July 18, 2009, at Dunn Baptist Church, Dunn, LA, from 9:00 AM until service time at 10:00 AM. Graveside services and interment will be at 2:00 PM at Oakland Cemetery, Monticello, AR. Memorials may be made to Dunn Baptist Church, Music Ministry, 1474 Hwy 80, Delhi, LA, 71232.
