Samuel Q. Hollingsworth is one of the successful planters and merchants of
this township.  He was born in De Soto Parish, La., January 5, 1862, to James
M. and Lizzie (Quarles) Hollingsworth.  They had six children, three now
living, our subject being the second oldest.  He was educated in Shreveport,
La., and Sewanee, Tenn., principally, and at the age of twenty-three years
started out in life for himself.  His father having been a farmer, he
naturally turned his attention to the same pursuit.  In 1884 he undertook the
management of his father's farm of about 2,400 acres, of which 1,200 acres are
under cultivation.  Besides, he conducts a merchandising establishment, in
which his father invested $3,000, and, taking it altogether, he is kept pretty
busy.  He was married, December 1, 1885, to Miss Nina Arnold, a native of
Texas, born in 1866, and to their union have been born three children:
Clifford, Arnold and Samuel.  They are all members of the Episcopal Church. 
In his political views Mr. Hollingsworth affiliates with the Democratic party,
and although he takes no active part in politics, his is always willing to
assist in matters of interest to his party.
