Oil and Gas Journal Date: Pub.ca. 1910 Title: MR. H. C. WALTER BOOSTS RED RIVER'S LAND MR. H. C. WALTER, the live and popular agent for the Globe Lumber Company, Inc., of Sibley, Louisiana, is optimistic over Red River's future and particularly its ever enhancing land values. He has devoted intelligent thought to the subject and his observation and opinion are worth something. He came to Red River, he said in an interview with a "Louisiana" representative, in the early of 1898. "At that time land was being offered in different parts of the Parish at twenty-five and fifty cents an acre. This did not include the timber land which could be purchased at one or two dollars per acre. I bought, myself, from the New Orleans Pacific R. R. Co., eight or ten thousand acres of land at one dollar and twenty five cents an acre. I sold 2,100 acres of this land within five years for $28,000 cash. I bought a lot of land and did not pay over two dollars and a half an acre for it. That was about nineteen years ago. Today this land has increased in value over five hundred per cent, and I think this is but the beginning of an enhancement of land values here." "It is wonderfully fertile, this soil," continued MR. WALTER. "It will produce with a modicum of effort and expense high-grade cotton, corn and sugar cane. It is fine for grapes, peaches, plums, apricots and strawberries. The bottom lands can't be beat for alfalfa and the uplands will produce hay in abundance." MR. WALTER concluded with enthusiasm: "Tell the world we welcome immigration: we have room and to spare; we want more neighbors and are ready to divide with them. Tell them we have many schools and the best of schools, churches, frateral organizations, everything. Tell them to come and we can show them better than we can tell them." ======================================= ========== > END OF RECORD <=========== ======================================= ********************************************** Copyright.
