           PHYSICIAN'S PETITION
   We the undersigned physicians of your said parish and State with respect 
represent that we are frequently called upon to treat those unfortunate 
individuals whose names appear upon the pauper list, and out of humanity we 
are compelled to administer to their sufferings -- that this works a hardship 
on the profession of medicinem, and that morally we are entitled to an 
appropriation annually to pay us for thus treating the paupfers of this 
parish, Wherefore, premises considered, we pray your Hon. Body to make said 
appropriation to defray expenses incurred in treating the said paupers of this

   [ The following action was taken on this petition submitted to the Red 
River Parish Police Jury of 1896, "on motion duly seconded, the above petition 
was tabled."
