   Of the 15 parish sheriffs to serve office from 1871-1971, KEETE LOCKETT, 
FLOYD JONES and SHERIFF KIRWEN BROWN have served the highest number of terms.
   GEORGE KING, reputed to be the first sheriff of theparish, never was 
sheriff accoriding to the records, but was "Chief Constable of Red River 
Parish." 
   Bond record on file in the Clerk's office in the amount of $500 each for 
GEORGE A. KING and M. H. TWITCHELL, dated June 22, 1871, reads:
   "The condition of this obligation is such, That if the above bound GEORGE 
A. KING shall and well and faithfully discharge and perform all the duties 
incumbent upon him as Chief Constable of Red River Parish ... "
   The following list of sheriffs, terms and date of office taking or oath was
