SUZANNAH NELSON DAVIS, 46, were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 2, at St. George Catholic Church, Ashland Road, Coushatta with the REV. LARRY NIEHOFF officiating, with interment in Liberty Cemetery. MRS. DAVIS died at 12:45 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 31, 1996, in Huckaby Hospital after a year-long battle with cancer. MRS. DAVIS was a popular Coushatta native and a successful romance novelist. She had grown up in the newspaper famioly of The Coushatta Citizen, worked for the paper, was honor graduate and drum major at Coushatta High School, and organist at St. George Catholic Church. She graduated for Lousiana State University, Baton Rouge, Cum Laude in English and worked variously as a librarian and social worker before launching her career in the early 80's as a novelist. She published her first novel, "No Bed of Roses" in 1984, and at the time of her death she had written more than twenty-22 novels. She had also completed during the last year, along with her friend and fellow novelist Penny Richards of Haughton, an additional quartet of novels for Dell Publishing that will be published next year. Her novels have been translated into more than a dozen different languages included Chinese, Russian and Japanese. She was a charter member of Northwest Louisiana Romance Writers and member of Romance Writers of America. MRS. DAVIS is survived by three children: BRIAN, 20, of LSU, JILL, 17, and BRAD, 13, both of Coushatta; her parents, GORDON and EVELYN NELSON of Coushatta; a sister, DR. JULIE NELSON of Baton Rouge; two brothers, TIM and KEVIN NELSON, both of Greenville, S. C. and former husband, J. Q. DAVIS of Coushatta. Pallbearers were JJIM BETHARD, BOB HOLEMAN, WALTER DORROH, CORT DAVIS, RICHARD LOFTIN and PATRICK NELSON. Services were under direction of Rockett-Nettles Funeral Home in Coushatta.
