Officiating will be REV. BENNY ALFORD, assisted by REV. BILL HINES. Burial will be in Springville Cemetery. Funeral home visitation will be 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 17, 1999. PAXTON STEPHENS was born Aug. 9, 1909 in Coushatta to the late MARIE SHEEN and THOMAS PAXTON STEPHENS SR. He was the oldest surviving member of the STEPHENS family, who were pioneer residents of Red River Parish. MR. STEPHENS died Monday, Aug. 16, 1999 in Shreveport. MR. STEPHENS attended Washington & Lee University, then LSU. He was a member of Kappa Alpha Fraternity. He has been an active member of the Baptist Church for 81 years, serving in many capacities including serving as deacon. He served as Mayor of Coushatta 1934-1938, a charter member of the Lions Club, past department Commander of the American Legion, veteran of World War II and retired farmer, merchant and co-owner of L.P. STEPHENS & Co. He was preceded in death by his wife, MARTHA STOBERT STEPHENS; two granddaughters, DIANNE STEPHENS FAIRCHILD and MARGARET CHADWICK; his parents and brothers, HARRY, FREDERICK and LEN STEPHENS. MR. STEPHENS is survived by a son, THOMAS P. STEPHENS, III and wife, MARGIE of Coushatta; daughter, MARTHA STEPHENS BARNES and husband, JERRY, of Homer; grandchildren, KATHY MARTIN and husband, DANNY of Lindale, Tx., MARIE SMITH and husband, GREG, of Longview, Tx., THOMAS STEPHENS IV of Baton Rouge, TONYA WHITE and husband, MIKE, of Ft. Lauderdale, Fl., MIKE LOFTIN of Ft. Lauderdale, Fl.; 12 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Pallbearers will be LEMOYNE ADAMS, JASON EBEY, LEWIS BROWN, JACK LAFIELD, CLINT JACKSON, JOHN STEPHENS, DONALD HORTON and HERMAN LONG.
