Bryan Price bryan303@bellsouth.net January 2, 2008, 1:09 pm The Shreveport Times November 30, 2006 Headline: Coushatta, La Funeral services for Rusha Savage Strother, 92, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, November 30, 2006 at the First United Methodist Church in Coushatta. Dr. Steven W. Fowler, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be at Springville Cemetery in Coushatta. Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Coushatta, Wednesday, November 29. Rusha died at her home Monday afternoon following a lengthy illness. She was born on November 24, 1914 on the family farm in the Tiger Bend Community near Marion, Louisiana. She was preceded in death by her parents, William Ernest and Ruby Green Savage; her husband, Patterson "Pat" Strother; son-in-law, Tom David Adcock; five brothers, Clifton, Glynn, Jerd, Mabry and John Tom Savage; and a sister Iris Savage Grafton. Rusha was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Coushatta for 62 years. During those years she participated in the WSCS, taught Sunday School and Bible School, and was the church secretary during the 1960's. She was also a member of the New Iberia Chapter of NSDAR, a charter member of the Coushatta Lioness Club and was a charter member of "The Coke Party", a group of ladies who met each Wednesday morning from 1942 until 1994. Survivors are her four daughters, Laurine Adcock, Patti Strother, Susan and Joe Taylor of Coushatta, and Norma and Don Lester of new Iberia. Grandchildren are Steve and Linda Adcock, Becky and John Coghill, Debbie and Doyle Bell, Charles Adcock, Kelley Taylor Lee, Karen Taylor Squires, David Lester and Drs. Laurin and Matt Council. Great grandchildren are Melinda, Nicki, Heather, Jane, Amy and Matt Aaron and Laura, Taylor, Tanner, Kaitlyn, Ethan, Marvin and Bridget and Cynthia. Great-great-grandchildren Arielle, Emily, Gavin and Anna Leigh. Two sisters, Cleo Savage Pratt and Martha Savage Free; three sisters-in- law, Mattie Savage, Stance Savage and Gwen Strother, special daughter, Jan Savage Warner and two special granddaughters, Judy Comer Ashcraft and Ginger Craig. Pallbearers will be Dr. James Conly, Johnny Ray Norman, Walter Taylor, Jim Bethard, Ben Robert Jowers, Roger Wilson, David Coffee and Dr. Greg Bell. Honorary Pallbearers are Buddy Huckabay, J.B. McElwee, H.M. "Mutt" Fowler, Edgar Cason, Raymond Nails, Harold Carlisle, Henry Bethard, Jack Lafield, Lem Jones, Sonny Bates, Archie Worsham, and Buddy Fowler. The family wishes to thank Dr. Fred S. Willis, Dr. Greg Bell and Dr. Steen Trawick for their loving care of Mother, and to Rose Brown, Minnie Everett and Paula Allen, her caregivers. The family requests that memorials be made to the First United Methodist Church in Coushatta; the Methodist Children's Home in Ruston or the charity of one's choice.
